View Full Version : SWCC is not an escape from the army...

Welcome to the course,

First, if you show up to SWCC unable to score above a 229 on the US Army Standard PT test or you are unable to complete a 12 mile ruckmarch with 50 pounds in less than 3 hours, you need to delay coming here. The Q course shouldn’t be an opportunity for you to get back in shape. In my opinion it is the first indicator that you are not taking this thing seriously and are not taking responsibility for yourself. I hate to get to emotional here, but really, how dare some people think that it’s ok to score below the PT standard. This community is has a reputation to uphold, which is, we are a body of mature professionals who happen to take serious pride in the job we do. Coming to the regiment is not a freaking escape. Apparently it’s ok to BOLO the PT test and once that happens, you will be counseled by the IODA team Sgt and subsequently he will be tasked with getting your ass up to an acceptable level of fitness. Try that in Ranger school, Airborne School, or even Air Assault. Your ass will be sent packing. Ill end this matter here, although I could go on and on.

Second, SWCC is not the place for you to let you hair down and think that it’s acceptable to throw all courtesy out of the window just because your classmate is an officer or an NCO. Avoid getting too comfortable. It’s a serious lack of professionalism that has been carrying its way into group. Look in the mirror and realize that your ass is not special. You are a student, understand that this is your current operational environment (make the words "operational enviroment" part of your vocabulary today). You have a seriously long way to go and just because you might have slipped through SFAS, your still not part of the gang.

IMO there is currently too much babying happening in the course. It is new policy that throughout the academic phases if a student runs less than an 80 average it is mandatory for that individual to attend study hall. There are mandatory safety briefs every Friday morning. You get a personal trainer if your ass is out of shape.

Really?

I feel that one of the Key attributes that you should leave the course with is that you find it shameful to not give it your all and that failure is not an option. That you recognize when the shit gets tough, and when it does you look at what you are doing wrong and take the initiative to correct it without big Sarge having to tell you to. Why should it be mandated that you attend study hall? If that student fails to recognize his faults and correct them, and continues to score below standard, it should be an indicator that they are not ready to be here. No?

If you can’t get a 229 on your initial PT test, you get one more shot tomorrow. If you bolo, goodbye. If you still don’t have the presence of mind to realize that drinking and driving and throwing bar stools through glass windows while under the influence is a bad thing, well, try your career somewhere else.
Lateness is unacceptable. You should be counseled immediately, 3 strikes your out. Hair excessively out of standard, counseling. Failure to show proper military courtesy, Intense one on one professional development PT session and counseling.

Too harsh?

I'm not SF, BWIW, it is awesome to see you uphold a standard that was set well before you. Everything you stated is balls on across the board...apply the SOF fundamentals and don't deviate. If someone shows up unable to pass the pre requisite...bag em there, he obviously could care less about you, the team, or the basic fundamentals of being a Professional is his supposed profession. Ask them if they get a second chance in a gunfight...

Figure SF718's post should be a stickie

WARNING!!!

The above is true for the Advance courses once you graduate. You are not the all knowing once you graduate. Listen to the instructors and keep your attitude in check!!

We will send you back to your team with a note to both SGM and Team Daddy. That is not a threat, but a promise!

This is all great advice to the newcomers. The "Q" course is merely an "SF AIT"....when/if you get to group the learning curve will be like a 12 foot brick wall.

It BEHOOOOOVES you (one of my favorite army sayings) to hit the books, get on blackboard..on ARSOFU, and friggin study and put the partying off the side....well, occasionally is fine.

The better learned you show up at your team, the better the asset you will be, and lessen the .."damn, we gotta drag the newbe along" type of thing.

PMT will be a BBIIAAATCH.....Let alone the team cross trianing. It takes 2-3 yrs befrore anyone is decently proficient in what they are supposed to do.*

* Caviat..situation depending of course!!

JMHO 22 yr opinion of course.

I was very very very fortunate to end up instructing in advanced courses when I did my SWC Tour. I was also shocked at some of the attitudes of Students who showed up to attend these courses. A few, not many Students had the, you cant hurt me attitude "Ill just return to my Team" Well they got hurt and flunked at the same time.
We actually had one Guy return to his Team because we kicked his Ass out for Safety and attitude violations. He told his TS that he was such a good shooter that we graduated him early. Of course his TS called us asking WTF Over.
Remember that one Rick? It was on the SOT side of the House.

And the same holds true when attending courses taught by other countries SOF personnel.

Dont show up bitching about a lack of time in the training schedule for a social life. It looks bad on you as a SF soldier and on the Regiment...

Dirtbag studs that show up and they:

cant PT
dont have their waivers
beat their kids the day before they showed up
no security clearance
piss hot for (take pick - crack, weed, heroin - saw them all when I was in SWCS)
no motivation
don't really know why they are there to begin with
get a DUI first weekend at Bragg
totally unprepared

....and that's the advanced skills students! LOL

Are you sure it isn't the same old shit? :D

SF718 good post, please allow my .02cents

When you are conducting PT evaluations like the 5 mile run or the 6/12mi ruck. Keep your F***ING mouth shut. Nobody wants to hear complaints from you the student about how YOU wouldn't pick that as the route, or any other whiney a$$ comment.

Or another favorite, the studs that can smoke physical events, but decide not to because they would rather just make it through. YOU must think that nothing says that you want or DESERVE to be in Special Forces like mediocrity.:mad: Guess what, your wrong. We your cadre see that attitude and make note of it.

And last thing. We see you sitting in the shade relaxing after an event, while your teammates are out there sweating, or stopping because a fellow student needs help. Guess what, you are organized into IODA's for a reason. IODA's are teams. So start acting like f***ing teammates.
