Dawna and Alysa Bryson, of Murphy, were part of a crowd in excess of 325 people Saturday at a meeting of the 9/12 Project-Cherokee County. Fiscal responsibility and restraint out of Congress is a primary focus of the group.
Murphy – More than 325 people Saturday evening gathered to plan how to elect their own representatives to the U.S. House and decrease the size and control of the federal government over the lives of American people.
There was standing room only in the meeting room of Mountain Vista Inn as the 9/12 Project-Cherokee County developed priorities and formed committees.
The previous meeting drew about 180, said Jerry Kilpatrick, co-founder of the local non-partisan, conservative group. Answering a question from the crowd, Kilpatrick said the easiest way to stop present government spending projects such as Cap and Trade is to take over the U.S. House of Representatives, which is in charge of the country’s budget. The House then could not fund the legislation. He pointed out that Get Out of Our House is an organization that plans to evict the 435 career politicians in the House and replace them with everyday Americans. Another priority of the 9-12 Project is to impose term limits on all political positions.
“All the politicians have forgot how they got there and who put them there,” said Joe Durham, a leader of the Cherokee County 9/12 Project. “Congress limited the President to two terms. No one limited Congress.”
Bill Hack, one of the co-founders of the 9/12 Project-Cherokee County, said, “We are on the way to replacing self-serving politicians. 9/12 is a peaceful solution to a political problem. It is our fault because we liked what [politicians] said and we didn’t question.”
Kilpatrick told the crowd to not bash anyone. “We created this problem. It is our fault. We haven’t paid attention. We can no longer sustain all of these stimulus [bills] and Cap and Trade. We need to cut government and increase business revenue. We are doing a bad job of economic development. Lifetime politicians can’t do it.”
Dr. Daniel Eichenbaum said the politicians in Washington have become arrogant because they are there year after year.
“They are only interested in the money they can get from special interest groups,” he said.
Two pieces of legislation that are an attack on freedom of the people are Cap and Trade and the House Health Care Reform Bill, he said. Cap and Trade is based on the false premise that people can affect climate.
“It is wrong for the federal government to base an entire fiscal bill on fake science,” Eichenbaum said. “It is a tax increase on everyone. People from the federal government [under the legislation] can come into your home if you want to sell it and determine if it is energy-efficient enough.”
Eichenbaum said Obamacare is like someone with a leaking room tearing the entire house down to correct the problem. The health-reform bill is a complete overhaul of health care to insure 12 million people who don’t have health insurance.
“The purpose of legislation has to be to identify a problem, fix a problem and not break everything around it,” he said. “In this 1,300-page bill are all sorts of controls over your life. This bill is not about health care, and Cap and Trade isn’t about the environment. These bills are about government control over your life. These people in Washington think they are so smart they should tell you how to live.”
Eichenbaum said he is in discussions with the Republican Party to consider whether he will run for the 11th Congressional District seat held by U.S. Rep. Heath Shuler (D-NC). He said neither he nor the Republican Party have yet made a decision about whether he will run. If he goes to Washington, he promised to only stay one term.
“My principles are that government should be tiny - a lot smaller than now and more power should be in the states,” he said.
Cherokee County resident James Collins said he came to the 9/12 meeting because he is concerned about czars the president has appointed as well at the proposed health-care bill.
“My neighbor is from England, and she couldn’t get over how good our health-care system is here. She is a nurse,” he said.
Murphy resident Patrick Palazzolo said he attended the meeting because he doesn’t like the role government is taking in our lives. Our freedoms are being eroded daily.
Murphy resident Carolyn Franklin said we “need to make our voices heard. Government is not listening. My main issue is that we need to get back to God. We need to reinstitute the Constitution.”
Murphy resident John Potts said he is familiar with the 9/12 project and wanted to see what it is all about.
The group formed committees for campaign research, youth outreach, local election strategy, intervention initiative, marking and promotion and new member orientation.
The next 9/12 Project-Cherokee County meeting will be Saturday, Oct. 10. Kilpatrick said the group has outgrown the present meeting place. They will find another location to be announced later. They hope to have 700 people attend the next meeting.
Congress is not doing you & I any favors. They think we work for them. They also think they can keep shoveling shiitte our way and expect us to roll over and take it..
Let their track record speak:
The U.S. Postal Service was established in 1775 - you have had 234 years to get it right; it is broke.
Social Security was established in 1935 - you have had 74 years to get it right; it is broke.
Fannie Mae was established in 1938 - you have had 71 years to get it right; it is broke.
War on Poverty started in 1964 - you have had 45 years to get it right; $1 trillion of our money is confiscated each year and transferred to "the poor"; it hasn't worked..
Medicare and Medicaid were established in 1965 - you've had 44 years to get it right; they're broke.
Freddie Mac was established in 1970 - you have had 39 years to get it right; it is broke.
Less is better... Term limits work...
