I have a Canon Sureshot S3 IS I bought last time we talked cameras. I'm starting to use it a bit and decided I need to protect my investment. I had an otterbox 2500 laying around but no joy - too small. I am thinking it will fit in the 3500 but wanted to hear what the experts are using?

I'm no expert or pro, but I do have a substantial amount of equipment in dollar worth. As far as physical protection for my equipment, I have a Lowepro Photo Trekker AW II Backpack. It's huge, but I have 2 Nikon DSLRs and a fiim camera, and a lot equipment. And I travel a lot. I also bought insurance through USAA. $17 a month. VERY worth it. I tried State Farm. They wouldn't cover any of my equipment.

x2 on Pelican cases.

I live in a harsh environment. Sacrificing virgins to the sea gods is no longer in fashion they want my cool electronic gear. Last trip was great.. that Canon Rebel XS over the side did the trick..:(

survival stories. http://www.pelican.com/about/survival.php
mmm read the survival story about entitled "so there was this block of C4" I suspected the minute I started reading that would it would end in the words ODAxxx and it did.

My laptop rides in the dink to and from shore on an almost daily basis. Getting wet is a normal part of the trip in or out. Cameras, Computer, cell phone, car keys ALL have a pelican case. I would not, as the add says, leave home without them.

OTOH, I have also been known to double ziploc everything and toss it into my backpack and go for it. :lifter

I have a lot of gear that is mine and the G's.... I put Camera Armor on my Digital SLR's and for transport I use Pelican case. I have special Camera back packs to trek around that hold the body with lens and all other lens and accy's. They are well padded and keep them from being damaged.

I used to case my old Canon point and shoot in one. Solid product.

Too add, I also have Camera Armor and a scratch guard over the LCD screen on one of my DSLRs.

Canon made the WP-DC20 waterproof case for the S1. I think it will fit your S3.

Ikelite also makes good quality WP cases for cameras.

Kata makes a great photo bag.

Booq makes what would be considered very high end bags for cameras.

I bought a Lowepro bag for my wife last year. The guys at TSE Inc sold it to me at cost (about half of the best online price I could find).

The one I personally use is the Tamrac Adventure 6 Photo Backpack . Bought it on Amazon since they ship to APO's.
Here is where you can see it: please add www in the appropriate place..

I like it because it gives great protection when I am out and about throwing it in and out of trucks. Protects really well from rain/dust/etc and most knuckleheads that throw stuff in the truck with out looking. It is small but not too small and gives you easy access without digging thought the whole pack.

Hope this helps.... OH the price is not bad either. There are a lot others out there but they get really pricey..... I have bought a lot of different ones using the office funds and I like this one the best.

Yeah those are not bad but they look just like what they are. Camera bags. When I travel I am in a high threat environment for theft so I have leaned toward the Tamrac Adventure 6 Photo Backpack as it just looks like any old day pack until you unzip the bottom. Blends in well and I do not need to carry 3-4 different lens and a ton of Accys........ It all depends on what your needs are and your environment. I have already had one $1800 Digital SLR stolen in a nice bag so now I am into durability and low profile. Hell I can not afford to lose another or I will have to quit taking photos.

Does it have a holster in it, or room for a back-up piece?:D

The one I use now has room for my GLOCK 27 in the upper section which is easly accessed. Not a quick draw but works and does not stand out.

All my packs eithor have a hoster in them or a good place to carry a pistol with easy access.
