I just received this notice in an email from our AG. Rest in peace SFC Woods.

Classification: UNCLASSIFIED
Caveats: NONE

All Soldiers, Airmen and civilians:

It is with deep sadness that I share with you today the passing of one of our own. SFC William B. Woods Jr., 31, of Chesapeake, Va., passed away on Aug. 16 at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Landstuhl, Germany, of wounds suffered on Aug. 14 while on patrol in Ghanzi, Afghanistan. He was assigned to our B Company, 2nd Battalion, 20th Special Forces in Glen Arm, Md.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Woods family at this most tragic time. Be assured that we in the Maryland National Guard family will do all we can to comfort and support Brian's family - now and in the future.

We can all take great pride in SFC Woods - as a Soldier, colleague and friend. He epitomized all that is great about our state, nation and the NCO corps. Please keep the Woods family in your thoughts and prayers.

Apparently one local resident was inconvenienced by the funeral procession and decided to complain to the Sheriff's office. The Sheriff responded.

for those who didnt know Brian. This guy was full of knowledge. Funny thing he joined the service as a food specialist..lol , But the warrior in him told him to go SF. I remember talking with him in our layover b4 arriving to A-stan. He was telling me how he got rated as a female on his NCOER in his prior mos. We were just sitting there laughing, what a fun loving guy, he will be missed. He was also a walking book of knowledge on weapons even though he was a medic. Miss ya buddy
