I saw that but it was clearly edited from several different appearances. I would have like to have heard each statement from the President in their full context before judging them. I wouldn't be surprised if those statements reflected his views but it just gives his pr spin masters the chance to claim that those comments were taken out of context. Barney Frank and Jan whatever her last name is on the other hand were explicitly clear as to their goals. Hopefully when our elected clowns return home for recess that their constituents continue to voice the opposition to this boondoggle.

KAREN TUMULTY (TIME): ...Could you at least give us a sense of, you know, which possibilities here intrigue you and which ones that maybe you're dismissing at this point?
BARACK OBAMA: Well, we have a plan that we are in the process of unveiling. What we want to do is try to set up a series of round table discussions before we actually announce it. Not just with experts, which we've already done, but rather with frontline workers, with nurses, with doctors, with consumers, which we're going to be scheduling over the next couple of months in terms of rolling it out. But let me just address a couple of points.
As I indicated before, I think that we're going to have to have some system where people can buy into a larger pool. Right now their pool typically is the employer, but there are other ways of doing it. I would like to -- I would hope that we could set up a system that allows those who can go through their employer to access a federal system or a state pool of some sort. But I don't think we're going to be able to eliminate employer coverage immediately. There's going to be potentially some transition process. I can envision a decade out or 15 years out or 20 years out where we've got a much more portable system. Employers still have the option of providing coverage, but many people may find that they get better coverage, or at least coverage that gives them more for health care dollars than they spend outside of their employer. And I think we've got to facilitate that and let individuals make that choice to transition out of employer coverage.
I do believe that employers are going to have to pay or play. I think that employers either have to provide health care coverage for their employees or they've got to make a decision that they're going to help pay for those who don't have coverage outside the employer system. So I think that's one important principle. And as I said, the second important principle is that we're going to have to put more money into prevention, more money into chronic care management, more money into medical technology, because that is how we're going to accrue the savings that help us provide subsidies to those who don't already have it. http://www.americanprogressaction.org/events/healthforum/obama_transcript.html
“I happen to be a proponent of a single payer universal health care program.” (applause) “I see no reason why the United States of America, the wealthiest country in the history of the world, spending 14 percent of its Gross National Product on health care cannot provide basic health insurance to everybody. And that’s what Jim (Jim Duffett, director of the Illinois advocacy group Campaign for Better Health Care) is talking about when he says everybody in, nobody out. A single payer health care plan, a universal health care plan. And that’s what I’d like to see. But as all of you know, we may not get there immediately. Because first we have to take back the White House, we have to take back the Senate, and we have to take back the House.” Obama speaking to the Illinois AFL-CIO, 06-30-2003. Did you need Barney Frank or Jan Shzckowsky, the statements they've made are recent news.

It's so unfair of everyone to bring up facts about what the President has said about single-payer care in the past. Such truth is not helping advance our President's goals. :( Now, through the marvel of technology and in an effort to root out these ugly displays of fact the White House is giving folks the ability to "easily communicate" if they see websites or receive email which disputes official versions. This, keep in mind, has nothing to do with being an "informant" a "snitch" or "dropping the dime" on your fellow citizen:
"There is a lot of disinformation about health insurance reform out there, spanning from control of personal finances to end of life care. These rumors often travel just below the surface via chain emails or through casual conversation. Since we can’t keep track of all of them here at the White House, we’re asking for your help. If you get an email or see something on the web about health insurance reform that seems fishy, send it to flag@whitehouse.gov"

Yes, truly.... "Facts-Are-Stubborn-Things" One ponders at the next type of communication they'll want us to report.... will there be a bounty.... maybe some type of "truth stimulus"
