In honor of the victims of Flight 93, please see this link:

I hadn't heard this before and am curious to it's veracity...and if it's true...why aren't we hearing more to fix this?

Looking at the site, I can see the cresent and why family members would be upset by this...

The "Crescent" concept was made public the day it was submitted. It was covered extensively here in the Pa. area and on Fox News.

From all indications, the design has already been approved. At least thats what was reported about three months ago.

The design:

Questions/answers about the design:

Letter from Flight 93 families to Senator Tancredo dtd 9 Nov 2007 addressing conspiracy theorist Alec Rawls' continued campaign regarding the memorial:

Information from President of Flight 93 families regarding the memorial dtd 2 May 2008:

http://www.nps.gov/flni/parkmgmt/upload/STATEMENTBYGORDONFELT.pdf

And then we have this type investigative reporting:

Looking at all the details so far - nothing really adds up neatly for me, except that Flight 93 had a midair crisis that caused debris to fall before it crashed. I remain skeptical of all the theories... except one. We are not being told what happened - and the Government knows exactly what happened.

And I still remember all the hoopla over the Vietnam Memorial's design - not to mention the on-going furor over the 9-11 memorial in NYC. ;)

And so it goes...

Not much was made about the size of the Park.

The family group letter from 2008 mentions that they/we have purchased 990 acres and that it is about 75% of the planned total.

The problem now is with the other 25%. The people that own the land say the park will be big enough with 990 acres. They want to keep their land. The Park backers say "take it" by government force.

So the question becomes - "How much land is enough land and should land be seized to build a park to honor the American Spirit?

I am not sure how the total land area overlays what I saw when I was last there. There isn't much across the road but the old stip-mine. Must be talking about the property beyond the actual crash-site (where the fence and the flag are).

I have never been in favor of the way "eminent domain" is being abused. I feel private property rights are the rights of the property owner. Yes a memorial needs to be built. Yes, the property owner had initially agreed to donate a portion of his land to the memorial. But, almost a thousand acres? How much property is downtown NYC going to donate to the twin towers memorial.

A memorial doesnt need to be extravagant to convey its message. Sometimes a solemn symbol of rememberance is all that is needed.

All to often are our national treasures overridden by commercialism.

i.e. The privately owned National Tower (Observation Platform) and Arby's resteraunt smack dab in the middle of the Gettysburg Battlefield. (since been removed)

Disney wanting to build a theme park at Haymarket.

The absolute need for a Racetrack and Golf Course right in the middle of the Brandy Station Battlefield.

We should show homage to our treasures not commercialize them.

One of my siblings lives out in PA with her family and they told me last month that the gov't had backed away from the seizing the private property. If I recall correctly, the size of the project was being scaled back to something less than a resort. She lives in Hershey so I'm just reiterating what she told me.
