View Full Version : Is Medical Waiver Required
When I was 16 I had headaches that occurred almost daily. I went to a neurologist and had every test possible with no results. The neurologist said that the headaches were likely caused by me being overweight. I was very over weight as a teenager. I have not had another headache since I was 18. The problem is that the neurologist wrote in her "Impressions" on my medical records that she thought I was depressed and had anxiety. Which I did not have. She even made me see a psychologist. I saw the psychologist and he said I did not have anxiety and was not depressed.
I hope I'm not out of line by asking this question on PS.com. I've tried to find out by calling a recruiter but I never get a clear answer.

Did you consult AR40-501? If not you should start there (search button is your friend.) If you have what guidance was provided therein?

From your question, there are more questions. Are you looking to a military career? In that this is a Special Forces forum, are you looking to enter the pipeline for selection? Do you still have the headaches? In that you really have no clear diagnosis for your headaches, a recruiter will have a hard time giving you a clear answer. Hard to waiver an undiagnosed condition.
Perhaps go back to square one; visit your primary care provider. Get a diagnosis for your headaches, and a treatment plan. Then go to a recruiter to see if your headache diagnosis is something that will allow you to serve in the military.
Headaches are a huge issue. For general medical advice outside of your doctors office, I would suggest starting with an online information source such as Web MD.
I wish you the best.

I forgot to mention I am trying to get an 18x contract. I do not get headaches anymore and have not in the past three years. The problem is the depression and anxiety. I was never diagnosed with it but in my medical records the neurologist said in her "Impressions" that she thought I had depression and anxiety. I am worried that I will need a medical waiver and will not be able to get an 18x contract.

Answer Crip's question. Do your homework.
Then let us know, what did the recruiter tell you?
Everyone with an opinion, stand down till that happens.
