Cultural issue? or Religious? Why didn't the reporter include the religion?
Oldest boy in assault of girl to be tried as adult
Authorities said Thursday that four boys ages 9 to 14 took turns raping an 8-year-old girl behind a shed for more than 10 minutes in what Phoenix police are calling one of the most horrific cases they've ever seen.
The outrage over the allegations intensified after police said the girl's parents criticized her after the attack and blamed her for bringing shame on the family.
"The father told the caseworker and an officer in her presence that he didn't want her back. He said, 'Take her, I don't want her,' " police Sgt. Andy Hill said.

I think the population is about 40% Christian, 40% Natural/native and 20% Islam.
Lot of Christians coming to American from that portion of Africa. We have portions of a family from Ghana in our church.
I'd guess more cultural in this case.
"The father told the caseworker and an officer in her presence that he didn't want her back. He said, 'Take her, I don't want her,' " police Sgt. Andy Hill said.
"Hill cited the family's background as the reason the family shunned the girl. All five children are refugees from the West African nation of Liberia.
In some parts of Africa, women often are blamed for being raped for enticing men or simply being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Girls who are raped are often shunned by their families."
Can only hope that this "Father" is run out of the Country!
DEPORT this Son-of-a-bitch, and HANG HIM by his parts when he gets there!
POS!!!
Can only hope that this little girl gets the full weight of resources available, to help her deal with this trauma.:(

Ahhh, what would you hang him for?
The trauma this child went through is terrible, sounds like she ultimately will be better off without the SOB father and the rest of her "family".

Gypsy - I would hang him just because he is an uncaring a88hole. :munchin
Ahhh, what would you hang him for?
Gypsy,
Do not understand your question?:(
Rhetorically, This man should hang for shunning his raped eight year old little girl, right?
Holly
Reading something like this breaks my heart!!! That poor lil girl. It is going to be a very long time before she feels safe....anywhere!
Cultural or not, how can any father not want to protect his innocent child, girl or boy, and want to help through something so horrific!?!?! He added more injury to her psyche by saying what he said.....POS!!!
Like I have said many times before, humans are continuously a disappointing species.
Ahhh, what would you hang him for?
For about a day and a half!
Brush Okie...If these four are commiting a rape at their age, I can't wait to see what they will be like as adults.
Our future??? :eek::eek:
(as it has been said, children are the future of our world)
"Hey guy, thanks for being an assclown. You are under arrest for willful neglect, child endangerment, and any other charge I can make stick. Oh, and by the way, I have some friendly guys from ICE who would like to "clarify" your immigration status." We do not need "people" like this in our country!

No, though I understand the sentiment.
"These four boys used what was a ploy to entice her to a place where they could take advantage of her almost like a pack of wolves,"
Being a victim brings disgrace on the family, but being a perpetrator doesn't? Nothing was mentioned about the boys being disowned by their families. IMO it's a cowardly culture that won't defend their weakest members.
My heartfelt prayers go out for the little girl.

One of the problems of being an immigrant from another country with a different culture is that you bring both the bad and the good of that culture with you. It is all you know... to expect a person to being "american'' overnight is simply to much to ask..
"it is a shame based culture'...sad that such things still exist..
I hope that the brats are immigrants that the ICE deports both them and their parents back to whatever shithole 3rd world country they come from.
I read that article last night at work and wondered, 'does this dude have any balls at all? good lord a Chicano would have gone hunting with his buddies for the dudes and they would have never seen juvenile hall..
I am still curious why this child was not being supervised by an adult..she was only 8 yrs old..my dtr was always in eyesight or at a place I _knew_ she was at at that age.
My heart goes out to that child... I hope she finds a family to love her.. but being in 'the system' is as brutal as being raped...

No one is expecting an imigrant to become an American overnight. What is expected is that the imigrant make an honest and fruitfull attempt at becoming an American.
My family was from a mid-european country. My father's native tongue was not spoken in the house, because he WAS an American. He would speak their language with his brothers and sisters on occasion.
We were from a coal mining "patch" with other mixed races, dad never completed grade school (went into the mines at 13) but he could speak 4 or 5 other languages.
He told us he was never so proud in his life as the day he recieved his draft notice, because it PROVED he was now an American.
It seems the difference here is that in my fathers day, a hard and honest attempt was made at assimilating to the American way of life. Today, it feels like the imigrant wants the Americans to assimilate to thier way of life.
Im personally not interested in hearing about the problems various ethnic groups have to deal with in this country. The same has applied to every ethnic group that immigrated here, and much worse. Remember, when our parents and grand-parents immigratged here, we were NOT the PC nation that we are today.

longrange Sir,
Very well said, IMHO. An old thread, but a good discussion on the topic:

As far as the injustice in this case, am glad that we have laws in America, that are not Sharia-influenced, where citizens are held accountable not only for their actions, but for their inactions, as in this "fathers" case!
Maybe am too overboard with my thoughts on this oxagen theif, but right is right, and there is no grey area where his 8 year old little girl is concerned.
JMHO.

This is the kind of thing that makes me want to puke.
I'm completely for learning about other, different cultures because variety is the spice of life, but this is the kind of shit that needs to be weeded out. A message needs to be sent, not just to the kids who did the raping (what kind of schooling in the US have they had where they would think what they did was at all acceptable? Home life is only part of the equation) but to the family that is shunning the little girl., and most importantly ANYONE ELSE in that community who feels this is just the way things are. Cause it ain't that way here.
Dads pay child support all the time; why not make this one pay the government $600 or so monthly to get the point across that he needs to adjust to the fact that he lives in America, not Rape County Africa. I think the kids need some re-education too; not the caring, understanding type but the ones that will drill into their heads that what they did is wrong, and will remain a stain on them for the rest of their lives. And maybe force members of the community to go with the little girl into the counselling sessions she is going to have to go through, with an officer in the room to record every time they try to tell her it was her fault and charge them with corruption of a minor, or something similar.
If I go to your county, I respect your rules, your culture. When you come to LIVE in mine, there is no reason not to expect the same from you. Especially if you are fleeing a crappy little country where it is the WOMANS fault for getting raped... even when she is just a little girl.

Liberians - when there in the early 80s, Liberia (and Monrovia in particular) was little more than a huge bordello for Europeans - the Liberian women would knowingly prostitute themselves to earn a dowry large enough to make them suitable for marriage - they then became vestal to their families once married to a nice, Liberian male.
And then the country really fell apart. What a society created by the likes of Samuel Doe and Charles Taylor. :(

UPDATE:
The Maricopa County Attorney's Office announced Saturday that a county grand jury indicted the 14-year-old on one count of kidnapping, one count of sexual assault, one count of attempted sexual conduct with a minor and four counts of sexual conduct with a minor.
Prosecutors have charged the 14-year-old as an adult, while the other boys — ages 9, 10 and 13 — have been charged in juvenile court with sexual assault. The 10- and 13-year-olds also have been charged with kidnapping.
The incident ignited an international outcry after it was reported the girl's father said he was ashamed of her. A family pastor later said that was a misunderstanding.
The girl is now in foster care.

Not sure when the 14 year old came to the US however: A 14 year old Liberian male may have already served in an African Tribal/political army of some sort...many child soldiers in Africa.
Rape/murder is a hallmark of tribal warfare.
Could just be learned bahavior applied in one's new home.
