Ok folks, our objective is to try and fill all the positions within a Special Forces Operational Detachment Alpha with famous personalities from the 19th Century, and in particular, from the Old West.
For starters I chose Phil Sheridan to lead the team in the position of 18A. Considering his military background and the fact that he was one of the outstanding leaders of his time I gave the title to him. Sorry to some of you for not chosing George Custer but anyone who graduates last in their class at Westpoint and then gets their entire command wiped out doesn't get to be a team leader.
The position of 180A went to William Cody. His experience as a soldier, scout, buffalo hunter, trapper, and a host of other trades, and also the fact that he managed the Wild West show on two Continents really appealed to me. Because of his varied talents William Hickock was a strong second choice.
For the position of Team Sergeant 18Z I wanted someone who had a good head on their shoulders and a who had a strong ability to influence other people. For these reasons I chose Virgil Earp. Though not as famous as his younger brother Wyatt his experience as a soldier, rancher, lawman, and businessman made him a good choice.
Alan Pinkerton was chosen as the 18F because of his extensive expertise in the tracking and capturing of criminals. He also served in the Union Intelligence Service during the Civil War.
My choice of 18Bs was relatively easy. I chose Tom Horn to be the senior and William Bonney, alias "Billy the Kid" to be the junior. These men were picked because of their experience with firearms and their more than willingness to use them. A second choice would have been Jesse James and his brother Frank.
Robert Parker, alias "Butch Cassidy" and Harry Longabaugh, alias "The Sundance Kid" were chosen to be the team's 18Cs. They were chosen because of their expertise with explosives. They often used their talents in blowing up train cars and opening safes.
For 18Es I chose Thomas Edison as the senior and Alaxander Graham Bell as the junior. Both of these men were brilliant inventors and had extensive experience with the technology of their day.
Considering the scarcity of doctors in the Old West the choice for 18Ds was a rather difficult one. I eventually went with Doc Holliday for the senior and Sitting Bull for the junior. Sitting Bull wasn't a physician by any means but was a onetime shaman instead. What the heck, those Native Americans knew a great deal about both herbal and holistic medicine.
Well there it is folks, if anyone choses to make any changes or substitutions the floor is yours.
