Black Maple Hill Single Barrel Bourbon

I like this stuff. Just had my first glass of the 14-year old. They sell 11, 14, 16, 18 and 21, IIRC. Incredibly smooth with a taste of sugar to it. Here's a little review:

Do you agree with the review of it or did you notice anything else about it that they do not mention?

I agree with the review. Each barrel is going to be different, of course, but what I noticed most was the sweetness. Almost like a mint julep without the mint. Very sweet. Blanton's is still my favorite, but I think I need to try the 21 yo.

TR, we may need a thread on this aging issue. Side-by-side seems to me to be the only true test.

Hey, hey, hey, my family got out of the untaxed whiskey business years ago.

The 11 year Black Maple Hill can be had for less than $30 a bottle. I may have to see what the Class VI can do.

RL, thanks to you, I now know that there are four grades of Blanton's, two grades of Booker's, five Maker's Marks, six Black Maple Hills and SIXTEEN Wild Turkey Grades.

Looks like we are going to need at least three cases of whiskey for our whiskey tasting/retirement party.

We only did three brands for our recent visitors. Hmm, going to have to step it up a notch.

Blanton's does not sell the gold or silver domestically, or so they told me when I tried to order some a while back. Don't know about the special reserve.

Can't compete with that as my drink of choice is a diet coke straight-up. However because the commissary turn over rate is pretty slow I probably am hitting the 12-14 year old vintage.:D

I am now having my second glass. Mind you, I had half a bottle of Chardonnay first, and that wasn't so smart, but I like the stuff better than yesterday. Not as sweet it seems. But just as smooth. :D
