I just can't get over how brazen the press corps has become in their schilling for the President. They aren't even making an attempt to pretend to be unbiased.

Back during the days of the USSR, there was a saying I came across: Ve Pravda, ne pravda. Or, in the newspaper named truth, there is no truth.

I think that the transition from an independent media to one that is, at least in this particular instance, controlled by a political leader is quite a dangerous development.

It appears I shall live during interesting times.

ABCNEWS Senior Vice President Kerry Smith on Tuesday responded to the RNC complaint, saying it contained 'false premises':

"ABCNEWS prides itself on covering all sides of important issues and asking direct questions of all newsmakers -- of all political persuasions -- even when others have taken a more partisan approach and even in the face of criticism from extremes on both ends of the political spectrum. ABCNEWS is looking for the most thoughtful and diverse voices on this issue.

"ABCNEWS alone will select those who will be in the audience asking questions of the president. Like any programs we broadcast, ABC News will have complete editorial control. To suggest otherwise is quite unfair to both our journalists and our audience." Sounds like Mr. Smith is contradicting himself in his statement to RNC saying that the RNC's letter contained "false premise"

The new Pravda? It starts with a program like this.... OABC, Obama Agency Broadcasting Company?

Nmap: It appears I shall live during interesting times.
Indeed! I never thought I would see it in this great nation of ours. It worries and sickens me to no end.

I think we should recruit Mohammed Saeed al-Sahhaf. He has a strong knowledge of the Middle East, is a former diplomat, and is experienced in dealing with the media. Furthermore, I'm sure he would generate all the respect some of the new policies deserve. :D

President Obama’s health care push will continue next week with a primetime event at the White House, with ABC’s Charlie Gibson and Diane Sawyer set to moderate a nationally televised event

That's so mindboggling I thought it was an April Fool's joke (in June?) until I went to the ABC site (http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/HealthCare/).

Interesting times indeed.

Well, I have heard that Herr Doktor Goebbels, Reichsminister der Volksaufklärung und Propaganda is making a comeback.

"That propaganda is good which leads to success, and that is bad which fails to achieve the desired result," he wrote. "It is not propaganda’s task to be intelligent, its task is to lead to success."

Change you can believe in. Ignore the man behind the curtain.

ABC's White House special struggled for viewers

Obama special President Obama's town hall meeting on health care delivered a sickly rating Wednesday evening.

The one-hour ABC News special "Primetime: Questions for the President: Prescription for America" (4.7 million viewers, 1.1 preliminary adults 18-49 rating) had the fewest viewers in the 10 p.m. hour. The special tied some 8 p.m. comedy repeats as the lowest-rated program on a major broadcast network.

The special was shot at the White House and featured the president answering questions about his health care plan. The president's primary message was that those who like their current insurance will be able to keep it and that taking no action will result in higher health care costs.

The special drew fire from Republican leadership after refusing to allow an official opposition response, or even a paid ad. ABC also interviewed Obama on "Good Morning America" to help promote the special.

I wonder if the casts and crews of Karen Sisco (starring the under appreciated Carla Gugino), Emily's Reasons Why Not, The Women's Murder Club (starring the exquisite Angie Harmon) and other short-lived ABC shows sat and wondered "...and yet we got canceled?!?"

Tariq Aziz
At times, listening to the president talk I get the same feeling I did when listening to Mr. Aziz do his thing. "Does this guy really believe what he's saying?"

Unfortunately, now, as then, the answer is the same.

First of all, I wanted to set the record straight. The "ABC" referred to in the thread title is NOT referring to me.

Ok, now that we've got that straight, the fact that the special got low viewer ratings does not matter in the slightest, othter than maybe it'll save us from a repeat in the near future. The hoards of ignorant sheep that would vote for our President a second time would not be watching anyway. The insinuation that this was a "news" program alone probably scared them off.

Last month, ABC's news division traded journalistic integrity for access to the White House. This week, ABC's news division slouched just a little bit more.

Here's the background. A photo from the G8 Summit is causing a bit of a stir. It pictures the presidents of the United States and France sharing the kind of bonding moment that is best left in the local Hooters.

Here's the slouch. ABC's Good Morning America as well as its White House correspondent Jake Tapper have come to the president's defense with video that 'proves' the president's intent was different than pictured. Source is here (http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpunch/2009/07/when-in-rome.html).

When In Rome...? Actually, not so much

President Obama and French President Nicolas Sarkozy trade places on a dais with "Junior G8" delegates.

On first glance, the snapshot appears to show President Obama caught in a moment of less than lofty analysis. But upon looking at the video, the moment might seem to appear quite innocent -- one of those times when a picture can be misleading. The president was on a higher step and was stepping down -- so he looked down to assure his footing as the woman was walking up the stairs.

Although: not everyone agrees. Judge for yourself.

(One must go to the link to see the video.)

What is interesting is that the photo featured on Tapper's blog post is cropped so that the president does appear to be on "a higher step" but the original photo, as well as the video, suggest otherwise.

Critics on the left and on the right have pointed out that after running on a campaign of hope and change, the president has gone on to revive many of the practices of the Clinton administration. Is this incident more evidence that this analysis is correct?

Other than looking right and stepping with the left foot there is something else.

Defenders on ABC were playing the whole clip where after he steps he turns to the right and helps the lady behind him down.

Some have noted that the clip being passed around appears to be "fast" in the look/step, turn, help section - as if the speed had been doctored to give the appearance of a smooth move.

I looked at it and the lady sure seemed to be steppin' down quick.

Not sure who they think they're kidding. Any red blooded male knows what he was doing. Even if he really did want to see her shoes, he should have known not to look down immediately after a female passes by. Cameras are everywhere.

I've seen the video and listened to the commentary both on TV and this board. I've heard it said only once, and that was on FOX.

This woman/lady would be better referred to as "Young woman" or "Young Lady".

"Junior G8" delegates.

This young woman is 16 years old.

I disagree, the sheeple will see what the media presents to them and most will believe what the media tells them to believe.
