Turkish jets strike rebel targets in northern Iraq

Turkey's military says its warplanes have attacked Kurdish rebel targets in northern Iraq following a land mine explosion that killed six soldiers.
A military statement says Air Force jets bombed targets in the Iraqi border region of Avasin-Basyan on Thursday.

Turkish warplanes have on several occasions targeted rebel hideouts in northern Iraq from where guerrillas have staged hit-and-run attacks on Turkish targets for decades.

The Kurdistan Workers' Party, or PKK, has been fighting for self-rule in Turkey's southeast since 1984.

Did the AF decide not to fly CAP that day? Were the AWAC's crews busy polishing off 'the back 9'? Come on..

Oh come on now... there's now way that would happen. Its not like we are currently running operations over there, nor do we have ANY air traffic controllers, nor AWACS, and our satellites are WAY to over worked, they couldn't possibly pick up something so inconspicuous as a Turkish fighter/bomber. They had to have done this on there own w/o any back channel hushed go-aheads. :D

US ground forces knew about it when they heard ordnance hit the ground or after seeing the black smoke on the horizon
US higher command forces knew about it when the aircraft flew across the border, when ordnance was released or when the Turk aircraft crossed the border leaving country..... I sure US forces, on radar, knew something crossed the border, but receiving a message from the Turks?
I would bet on the latter
