Letourneau hosts 'Hot for Teacher' night at bar
AP, 22 May 2009

A teacher who became notorious in the 1990s for having an affair with a sixth-grader is hosting a "Hot for Teacher" night at a Seattle bar — along with the former student, now her husband. Bar owner Mike Morris said Mary Kay Letourneau has served her sentence and it's OK for the couple to have some fun.

The 47-year-old Letourneau served seven years in prison after pleading guilty in 1997 to raping Vili Fualaau, now 26. They met when Fualaau was in second grade and began their affair when he was 12 and she was a 34-year-old married mother of four. They were married in 2005 and have two daughters together.

Morris said Saturday's event at Fuel Sports Eats & Beats will be their third "Hot for Teacher" night. She greets people and he DJs.

What do you think would happen if a male teacher who repeatedly had sex with a 12 year old girl was out of prison and was doing this, while married to the girl he molested?

I believe if word got out of who he was and what he did, he would have never gotten out of that prison. At least alive.

EDIT: And I don't think he would last too long if he did make it out either.

If this were a 'Male' situation well: I have admitted before on this board that I'm old. I was also raised in a coal mining "patch". We were a close group.

Some of the mine shafts run over a mile deep. Well, you get the picture. Im not saying that this ever happened when I was growing up, but some unsavory characters just moved out and no one knew where they went. Others went hunting or fishing and just didnt come back.

Life was so much simpler then.

You guys are right about the double standard. A male teacher would have suffered much worse consequences for his actions. We're predators. :D

On a slightly different note, I had a beautiful PE teacher in High School that I absolutely adored. The chemistry was reciprocal too. I would have gladly gone anywhere with her after school... ;)

The groups in question are too busy campaigning to end violence against women and children in the Middle East and Africa.

Many years ago, at the first assembly of the fall semester, a new P.E. teacher was introduced to the student body. Although this high school had gone co-ed the previous decade, the boys could not contain their approval of her radiance. The approbation was voiced spontaneously and in unison.

"Ooooooohhhhh," we said. She blushed and we collectively laughed nervously in embarrassment.

We had a story similar to this one a few years ago - female teacher having intimate relations with a 'tweenage' boy. I went to the Faculty of Education (Teacher's College) with a woman who lived next door to the above teacher who decided to have relations with her 12 year old student. The teacher was found guilty, went to jail and married her student upon release. My classmate told me that they are from a small town and while at first the woman was seen as an outcase, slowly her crimes were forgotten and she was reintroduced to the community. I am not sure what is worse, the crime the teacher made or the town accepting what she did.

And here is a more recent one:

There is a definate double standard with male and female teachers. There was another story in the paper years ago about a male high school teacher who had three of his female students accuse him of having sexual relations with them. Of course he went to court and ended up losing his license to teach - even though he had a solid alibi (his fishing buddy was a police officer) for many of the supposed 'encounters' and he was not even in town (at his cottage fishing). And while I do not recall what the justice system did to him, career wise he was ruined. The real kicker to this story though is that a year after his sentencing, one of the girls felt 'really bad' for making up the whole story up and confessed everything. Unfortunately the stigma of being with the girls was set and he will never be a teacher again.

Unfortunately the reality is somewhat different. They are segregated in prison in isolation units that keep them fro the rest of the inmates who would make pedophile pate out of them in short order.
There are plenty of convicted sexual predators out living in neighborhoods. A check of states Law Enforcement websites will reveal how many live close to you. It's a sobering thing to find out there may be dozens within a few miles of you.

TRHe'd be on the run, in hiding or worms crawling out of several orifices....

Stay safe.

I just did a check on the California Sexual offender website and was suprised to know that there were several offenders living within a short distance of me. Suprised to see a handful of women listed there. Shocked to see two men that I can remember attending school with.

The PE teacher, whom everyone thought was gay (don't know why), in my high school married a senior who had been impregnated by my cousin.

What is it with PE teachers?

How long is 15 minutes of fame, anyway?
Isn't she really just a Carnival sideshow geek?-- someone you look at because they are disgusting?
The problem with public humiliation is it only works on people with a sense of shame.

Now would be a good time to stop talking.
