There are many good knives on the market that fit the bill. Much depends on what you want to spend on a knife. IMO: The old 'Ka-bar' is a nice inexpensive fighting/utility knife.

On the more expensive side and my choice for a good all-around knife would be the Chris Reeves Pacific knife.:

I advise you to immediately read the board rules, and stickies, and comply.

Do not post again till you have.

I don't like people who are not SF putting it in their user name. You want to pick a new one, or do you want me to?

This was not the right PM to send.

Maybe you should have read the rules after all.

Looking forward to seeing you at Ft. Bragg, if you make it through Basic Training.

If we meet, I really doubt that you will say that to my face.

Neversfsoldier,
Thank you for your interest in knives.
I'm writing this for yourself and others who may not be familiar with how this place works.

You were requested, by a QP Administrator (and all admins here are QP's) to only do what he or any other admin here would ask one who has not filled out a profile or posted an intro. There was no variance in tone in the initial request to you from any other like request. Rules apply to all, evenly.

If/when you get yourself back in level flight please search the knife area here for the question to your answer. If you have further questions I will try and answer.

Good luck with your new friends.
