The Misses & I are going to fly up to DC to see the G-kids for a couple days.. SO,,, I though I'd check the latest on the Swine-Flu . One or the other of us generally catches something every time we fly..

Anyway,, Wake up and Military.com has a new article,, probably worth reading??

After the 1st 4 sentences,, I'm confused..

GOVERERENCE BY FLIP-FLOP & APPEASEMENT???? :mad::rolleyes::eek:

Pentagon Prepared for Flu Outbreak
April 27, 2009
Military.com|by Bryant Jordan

In a worst-case scenario that the current flu crises threatens military operations, the Defense Department has already stockpiled enough vaccines to meet demand across the services, a Pentagon spokeswoman told Military.com April 27.

President Barack Obama has called the worldwide spread of swine flu infection a cause for concern but not a cause for alarm.

But the Department of Health and Human Services, which has taken point on the crisis, declared "a public health emergency in the United States" over the flu that has killed about 140 people in Mexico with 1,600 known cases.

But Homeland Security chief Janet Napolitano said the Health and Human Services declaration "sounds more severe than really it is."

1st the Pentagon is ready for the worst case,, BUT wait,, Barry says there is no cause for concern,, BUT the DoH&HS declares a crisis,, BUT then again Janet say No Problamo????

Four statements, four flip-flops.. These are the same people that sent fighter jets to strafe Manhattan yesterday,, and didn't see the humor in the thought???

Now,, my real question for the Medical Professionals...

Should I get some surgery masks for the flight??
Are there "professional" quality masks with some sort of anti-bacterial mung in the filter?
Do I get a choice of color, so I can match my beard?

Inquiring mind wants to know??? :D

Thanks in advance..

I would re-read the Pandemic Flu thread, and think hard about whether I really needed to make that trip right now.

The situation does not appear to be that bad, in the U.S. right now. That could change very quickly, and in fact, as mugwump pointed out, may be at a critical point already, and we just don't know it yet.

It isn't just the airborne pathogens, everything you touch has the potential to be contaminated.

You also run the risk of bringing the virus from your flight to your kids and grandkids and passing it on to them. It would be a few days before you even knew that you had it yourself.

The administration has, IMHO, made a serious mistake in not locking down the border and cancelling all flights from Mexico. Other nations have already done so. This could go very bad in less than a week.

Most suppliers of N95 masks are out right now, and the things are not really very comfortable for hours on end.

Thanks TR,

Unfortunately, we purchased the tickets last month. Good deal, 150 USD each, MIA - DCA, round trip..

Although I rant about POTUS and circus,, I am more concerned with the flu,, the g-kids are 6 mos & 3.5 yr,, it's a worry...

Wife is checking our GP/PC on vaccination shot viability. As I read it, this yrs batch is not going to be of much use against la gripa del canalla..
