Way back when (it was foggy) I had a friend and his Grandfather was one of those "amazing guys". Seemed to have done everything -- Written scholarly books, was an ordained minister, Head Mastered the Private school his own father had founded, lots more stuff. But one thing that really imperessed me was that he had climbed to the top of the highest point in every state. He was a High Pointer. I just though that was so cool, athletic, dedicated.
Years went by and my little daughter is in the 3rd grade and she has a project to find something unique about every state. Well it is probably a sad commentary but every state has it's own EVERYTHING -- flower, tree, animal, rock, ice cream flavor! I pointed out that every state has to have a highest point, right? She took off with it and a "great time was had by all -- once I talked her out of 50 plaster of parris replicas! (The A+ didn't hurt.) wonderfully, doing a project was not enough, we promised to bag them all ourselves. This has turned into the best excuse for a father-daughter road trip ever! We have ND, SD (great), NE, KS; AZ, NM, TX (great) OK, MO, and lately FL. With the "Bright Center of My Universe" (BCMU) getting her license I think the pace will really pick up.
Check out the link, it is a pretty serious pursuit. Anyone else collecting High Points?
