View Full Version : Islam is the Most Democratic Religion

Madeline Albright on Islam::munchin
"There is no doubt in my mind that Muslim countries can be democracies," Albright says. "Turkey is a perfect example of that. It is very evident, and, actually, in my study of religions, in many ways Islam is maybe the most democratic religion because there is nobody between you and God. So I do not think that is something that can be used as reason not to have Muslim democracies."

Nobody - unless you're not Muslim or a woman.
As long as the majority says it's OK to gun down women and Non-Muslims any time any place - well, who am I to judge.

I may be a youngin', but if my history serves me correctly, Madeline Albright isn't exactly the sharpest knife in the drawer when it comes to... anything really.
Perhaps she's just being 'culturally aware'? :munchin

Maybe she'll move to Saudi Arabia or even Yemen. I hear it's pretty nice there. Plenty of sun and sand, cheap beachfront property, and great democratic rule, or was that autocratic theocracy? Aw heck, I can't keep them straight.

Hamas gets 20.3 million to immigrate to the US.
How many more of these terrorists do we want here?
She needs to change her name to Madeline Notsobright after that statement. ;)

Good name for her. She is a real hard core leftist with no regard for what this country was founded upon. Seems this entire current admin has forgot the constitution and why we ever broke ties with England. This country was founded by those who were damn tired of the King or Queen, the Church of England, and all believed in working. They damn sure knew they would only reap what they sowed, and; they even tried socialism in a few early colonies. That experiment proved that able bodied males would sit on their ass expecting a handout. I suggest we get back to the old work ethic.

I blame the hippies and the antiwar types from the late 60's for this this BS we are dealing with today.
An interesting aside is that both Madeline and Condi were political understudies of her father, a professor at the University of Colorado. Does one argue nature or nurture based on the outcome of that particular scenario? ;)

This.
I'm...flabergasted. That is one stupid statement.
The hits just keep on comin'.
Islam democratic? The same Islam that has rulers who represent both secular and religious authority in the same office? The same Islam that supports the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia? The same one that has various Imam's that issue Fatwas?
It appears my understanding of "democratic" diverges from that of Mad. Albright.

The translation of the word Islam is submission. The complete and total submission of your life to a higher authority. That sounds a lot more like authoritarianism than democracy. Sounds to me like Madeline Albright hasn't spent much time considering the worlds major religions. When I attend church and pray I don't ask the Pope to relay the message for me. As the old Jewish saying goes it goes straight "from my lips to God's ears".

How do these people (Albrite, et al...) when their thinking is so distorted? In Islam it is perfectly acceptable to slice the head off the infidel and there is no democratic vote to do so.

…in many ways Islam is maybe the most democratic religion because there is nobody between you and God.
I’m pretty sure the majority of Protestant denominations also believe “there is nobody between you and God.”*
Wasn’t this a major part of the Protestant reformation?
On the other hand, I don’t think that all Islamic sects believe “there is nobody between you and God.” For example, veneration of saints (and belief in their intercession) is fairly common, especially among Shi’i.
* Jesus excepted, of course. I don’t want to delve into the many different ways the Trinity is viewed in Christianity here.
