Competing Party School Rankings
Inside Higher Ed, 20 apr 2009

Playboy, which has periodically ranked "party schools," announced Friday it would issue such reviews annually, potentially setting up a challenge with Princeton Review, whose guidebook is best known for its party school rankings. The differing methodologies of the two operations result in different "winners" of the competition that most administrators would prefer to lose. Playboy does include learning as one factor in its rankings. The other four factors are: athletics, campus life, availability of sex, and a "bikini index," based on weather, female-to-male student ratio, and cheerleaders. The resulting top five for Playboy: University of Miami, University of Texas at Austin, San Diego State University, University of Florida and University of Arizona. The Princeton Review bases its selections on student surveys covering the use of alcohol and drugs, hours of study a day and the popularity of the Greek system. The Princeton Review's current top five are: University of Florida, University of Mississippi, Pennsylvania State University, West Virginia University and Ohio University.

My junior or senior year in college (I went to the University of Wyoming) we did not make the top 5, but we were on the list with an *.

The * stated, at the end of the story, that we were not considered because it would not be fair to compare professionals to amateurs!!!!

Interesting. When I hit the "New Posts" button, this thread popped up and the next thread down was "How to raise our I.Q.s". Hmmm.

I'm surprised that UofA beat out Arizona State for that honor. (Although, there is little else to do in Tucson... even worse at NAU - Not A University - in Flagstaff.)

I started my college career at U of Miami and after the Army, finished it at ASU. Even though there was always a party at these two "Sun Tan U's" - Eye stil thinque I gott a gud edumacashun! :D

Great, my alma mater made the top five again (Princeton Review, must not have wooed the Playboy surveyors)... Some things just never change.

Playboy's list is baloney because it factors in weather. I went to the University of Wisconsin, and before Playboy started factoring in climate we were always in the top two or three now we are 6th. I throw the BS flag.
