X-SF?
The subject appears to be a bit too young to be qualified in the time frame that the article suggests.

Agreed.

Two young Americans who left their homes to join an Al Qaeda-linked terrorist group in Somalia held a rare “press conference” in southern Somalia on Sunday, saying they want to be killed "for the sake of God," according to a U.S. law enforcement official and a report posted on a Somali news Web site.

Baaaaaa! Baaaaaa!
Part of the article states:
It has been reported that he is an American Muslim, ex-US Special Forces, one of a handful who were sent unofficially to fight in Bosnia in about 1992, though the American government hasn't confirmed those reports.
The passage illustrates the sloth of many journalists today, especially when it comes to reporting on topics regarding the armed services.
A report becomes a fact. The burden of proof falls on the government. The lack of confirmation can be read as a denial and further proof that the report is a fact rather than what it really is: a rumor. More fodder for the tin foil hat crowd.
Despite the evidence that readers are tired of these hackneyed pieces of legerdemain, news outlets continue with these practices. If we're going to use public funds to stimulate the economy, can we use some of that money on blue pencils for editors and Jimmy Olson detector rings for these 'professionals' with their press passes?
Or maybe they just like being co-opted by the present administration.

...but, officials said, there is NO intelligence to indicate that Somali-Americans who traveled to Somalia are planning attacks inside the United States.
