SF Groupies

Really? The kind Rock Stars have? The kind that follow you around, throw unmentionables at you, faint when you smile at them, stalk you -- that kind of groupie?

The recent mention of groupies piqued my writer's curiosity. I hope I'm not treading on hallowed or highly sensitive ground, but if anyone here could enlighten me without compromising his own Personal OPSEC <cough> I'd love to hear more. :D

I've heard about SEAL groupies. Are SF groupies better looking? Smarter? Classier? Easier? What? Are groupies easy to spot? Do they hang out at your watering holes? Are they annoying or welcome? What do they see in you guys? Are they looking for a hero, or a good time, or a husband? Do you care what they see in you? :p

Actually, what I'm most interested in is when did this groupie thing start? Has it been around since the '60s, for example? Is it a regional thing? Does one SF group have better pickin's than others? Are there groupies in every port?

Okay, now I'm officially blushing and have probably made a fool of myself. Either you guys will throw me out of here or have a field day with this. Either way, I appreciate you guys.
