I have searched all over and I can't seem to pin down a exact number of years a new 18a officers contract is. My idea of "new" is an officer whose first contract in the Army is about to end and he just made it through SFAS.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Why?
You are a very long way from having to worry about that.
IIRC, officers do not have "contracts", they accept commissions and incur service obligations.

Contact the SF Branch manager. If you made it to SFAS, you should know to do this for these type of questions.

Thanks for the responses. I figured that the commission aspect was the same in SF as other MOS's, I just wanted to confirm.

You will not be able to commission into SF.
Officers have branches.
You need to search and read more.

Stop worrying about your 300 meter target. Get through school, branch combat arms, be the officer that you're men respect, and then you can worry about SFAS. Until then, listen to the advice you receive on this site.

My experience is that people who look past their time in the Q course to other things don't make it. Being a detachment commander isn't an OER bullet kinda deal. You're either there to learn and to lead the finest soldiers in the Army, or you're a douchebag. Each Group has their share of each I suppose.
