Pelosi Tells Illegal Immigrants That Work Site Raids are Un-American
The speaker of the House told a group of both legal and illegal immigrants recently that enforcement of immigration laws in the United States is "un-American."
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi recently told a group of both legal and illegal immigrants and their families that enforcement of existing immigration laws, as currently practiced, is "un-American."
The speaker, condemning raids by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents, referred to the immigrants she was addressing as "very, very patriotic."
"Who in this country would not want to change a policy of kicking in doors in the middle of the night and sending a parent away from their families?" Pelosi told a mostly Hispanic gathering at St. Anthony's Church in San Francisco.

"It must be stopped....What value system is that? I think it's un-American. I think it's un-American."
Pelosi said she was invited to the church by Rep. Luis Gutierrez, D-Ill., as part of his 17-city, cross-country tour called United Families, which he says is intended to put a human face on the immigration debate.
"We think that families are the cornerstone of our society and our nation, and an immigration system should preserve those families, not destroy them," Gutierrez told FOX News Capitol Hill Producer Chad Pergram on Tuesday.
The congressman is collecting petitions that ask President Obama to "stop the immigration raids and deportations that are tearing our marriages, families and children apart." He is expected to present those petitions when Hispanic members of Congress meet with the President Wednesday.

On Saturday night, Pelosi joined Gutierrez before a cheering crowd at St. Anthony's chanting, "Si se puede," or "Yes we can."
Referring to work site enforcement actions by ICE agents, Pelosi said, "We have to have a change in policy and practice and again ... I can't say enough, the raids must end. The raids must end.
"You are special people. You're here on a Saturday night to take responsibility for our country's future. That makes you very, very patriotic."
"I was embarrassed by what she said," said Rick Oltman, with Californians for Population Stabilization, an anti-illegal immigrant group. "Exhorting illegal aliens for taking responsibility for our country's future.... In fact, sitting there in the audience.... I really resented that comment."
"I think it was pandering to the crowd but also insulting to American citizens who consider themselves to be patriotic, who obey the rule of law," said Oltman, who shot a video of the rally.

As Speaker of the House, if she feels current laws are "un-American", shouldn't it be her duty to try to get the laws repealed? Doesn't she lead the government body who could do just that? Deeds, not words, Madame Speaker, unless of course you're afraid of the results of the voter backlash to such an act.

I'm getting a whole lot disgusted with my elected and paid government 'representatives' turning out to be America bashers. Far as I'm conerned, she's a treasonous wretch of a malcontent abusing her power and influence and ought to be routed out like the cancer she is. Speaking of Acorn. My dtr and her husband were hit up by an Acorn member to register. Every registratioin this woman had, already had Democrat marked on it. When my dtr marked through it and put in Libertarian. Somehow her voter card says she is a Democrat. Those people are scary.

I have seen this Woman up close several times. She carries herself in a manner in which she truly believes She is God like and expects to be treated that way.
She makes no effort to hide it. I never seen anyone, including Hollywood Actors so detached from reality. No one individual is even close to Her. Its something you would have to see with your own eyes to be completely disgusted.
I have to wonder if she would feel the same way if they were moving into her neighborhood, next door, around the corner....... Would she think that ill treatment and raids on them are still unAmerican when they infil her "hood"?
It takes me back to when Hillary the Hun was running for Senate in NY.... her nice house up in Chappaqua kept her isolated from those "poor, single, crackheaded" mothers that she was supposedly standing up for. Different standards for others but they would be loathe to associate with "those people" on a daily basis, have to face them on the street everyday, in the supermarkets, etc.
Yeah, she says those raids are unAmerican because she is afraid of being found out for how many she is probably employing to do her cleaning, cooking and yardwork....but I bet she has a hot Latino cabana boy for her pool!!!! :D

I was just speaking with my 90 yr old mom about this issue.. I think I Have the answer.. put my mom in a room with Pelosi... I _know_ who won't be in the senate anymore. haha. She said Pelosi should have been drowned at birth. I won't repeat the rest...

A cheerful thought: mid term elections are in something like 18 mos. Its been two months since HE took office... people are already revolting over the tax issue. It will only get worse. I promise to vote for bonzo the chimp if he is republican to change the house. McCain is using his campaign email lists to keep people apprised of doings in DC. Change will come.. but not the way the liberals will like.
Anyone see the news short on tv last night that showed reporters driving from one city to another in Iraq with almost no security and showing all the good that has come down the pike. We won... hearts and minds guys... hearts and minds.. off to work, I get to 'play' with Vets tonight. It does not get much better than that! :D

Napolitano orders review of Wash. immigration raid

"SEATTLE (AP) — Immigration agents this week conducted their first work-site raid since President Barack Obama took office, but it was news to their boss, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, who on Wednesday ordered a review of the action.
Workplace raids involving the arrests of hundreds of illegal immigrants at a time became almost routine in the last years of the Bush administration, but Napolitano's response to Tuesday's raid at a Bellingham, Wash., manufacturing plant highlighted the Obama administration's much different approach to a hot-button issue.
Napolitano told lawmakers during a hearing in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday that she did not know about the raid before it happened and was briefed on it early Wednesday morning. She has asked U.S Immigration and Customs Enforcement, which arrested 28 illegal immigrants in the raid, for answers.
"I want to get to the bottom of this as well," she said. She said work-site enforcement needs to be focused on the employers.
The raid at the Yamato Engine Specialists was the first work-site action ICE has taken since Obama took office, said Sean Smith, a spokesman at Homeland Security in Washington, D.C.
In a statement, an ICE official said the agency conducted the raid after information from two "gang members" led agents to start an investigation at the company.
"Follow-up investigation uncovered a potentially large number of illegally employed workers. ICE conducted the operation in order to identify and, if appropriate, apprehend any unauthorized workers and to further determine potential criminal activity," ICE spokeswoman Kelly Nantel said in an e-mail from Washington, D.C.
Obama, who appointed Napolitano, has signaled a shift in immigration policy that would rely less on work-site enforcement, focusing instead on employers who hire illegal immigrants and overall immigration reform."

Agents with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement had arrested 28 workers during a Feb. 24 raid at Yamato Engine Specialists. ICE investigators said many of the workers from Mexico and Central America had used false documents to obtain employment at the plant.
Saying she had not been made aware of the raid, Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano immediately ordered a probe into the actions of the Seattle-based ICE team that conducted the raid.
Napolitano and the Obama administration have said they want to shift the focus of these raids from the illegal workers themselves to the employers who knowingly hire them.
Immediately following the arrest of the workers, three women with children were released on humanitarian grounds and a fourth worker with a medical condition was also allowed to leave.
Last week, all the remaining workers not deported were allowed to leave the Northwest Detention Center in Tacoma without bond — a move immigration attorneys call highly unusual.
Illegal immigrants arrested in raids or other ICE actions are often detained for months until they can get a hearing before a judge. Sometimes they waive their rights to a hearing and agree to return home.
