I am not looking forward to an EU being lead by the Democratic socialist state of France.

A small excerpt “The historian Andrew Roberts has calculated that of the 4,572 allied servicemen who died on that day on which, in retrospect, so much of human history seems now to have pivoted - only 19 were French. That is 0.4%”.
The necessity of LBJ’s comment to de Gaulle eloquently depict why I dislike the French. I think of a quote I read while working in France by Marcel Proust, a Frenchmen, sums up my sentiment and also shows the French arrogance of false pride. I don’t remember the quote completely, but this is close…”The sensibility claimed by the French neurotics is matched by their egotism…others suffering is never greater than their own which they pay much attention too.”

FWIW - as a FAO, I had dealings with France during GW1 and later when we were moving materiel to the Balkans and Somalia. The anti-NATO/US/UK actions and rhetoric voiced by the French Minister of Defense Chevenement during GW1 led to very strong internal outrage within the government at that time and his quick removal. While in the OACSCMO at the 21st TAACOM, I learned that the French government spoke openly of French autonomy - but staunchly supported us and NATO quietly 'under the table' of the MSM when it was of mutual interest to all of us.

I take this as a more positive sign of a French realpolitik move by its current President...and maybe a sense of need for help with its 1.5 - 2 million surly North African/Muslim immigrants.
