According to the article, Dr. Fadl's criticism has stung Zawahiri; Zawahiri has written a 200 page rebuttal.

...Twenty years ago, Dr Fadl became al-Qaeda's intellectual figurehead with a crucial book setting out the rationale for global jihad against the West.

Today, however, he believes the murder of innocent people is both contrary to Islam and a strategic error. "Every drop of blood that was shed or is being shed in Afghanistan and Iraq is the responsibility of bin Laden and Zawahiri and their followers," writes Dr Fadl.

The terrorist attacks on September 11 were both immoral and counterproductive, he writes. "Ramming America has become the shortest road to fame and leadership among the Arabs and Muslims. But what good is it if you destroy one of your enemy's buildings, and he destroys one of your countries? What good is it if you kill one of his people, and he kills a thousand of yours?" asks Dr Fadl. "That, in short, is my evaluation of 9/11."

He is equally unsparing about Muslims who move to the West and then take up terrorism. "If they gave you permission to enter their homes and live with them, and if they gave you security for yourself and your money, and if they gave you the opportunity to work or study, or they granted you political asylum," writes Dr Fadl, then it is "not honourable" to "betray them, through killing and destruction".

In particular, Dr Fadl focuses his attack on Zawahiri, a key figure in al-Qaeda's core leadership and a fellow Egyptian whom he has known for 40 years. Zawahiri is a "liar" who was paid by Sudan's intelligence service to organise terrorist attacks in Egypt in the 1990s, he writes...

Wow. I am astounded. A terrorist with a "crisis of conscience". I got news for ya Dr. Fadl, no amount of retraction on your part for the deeds you helped inspire will ever wash the blood off your hands. Whats done is done and there ain't no going back. Furthermore, you deserve to be hunted down and disposed of like yesterdays trash. There is no atonement now, your goose is cooked.

Hostile, I don't think its a retraction, IMHO. Though, when reading it, I thought the same thing you did. It states in the Quran that they are allowed to deceive the infidels...if it furthers their cause and they something to gain. IMHO, I think this is deception....pure and simple, tell the infidels what THEY think they want us to hear and to appease us, throw us off guard. It's just another ploy and I don't trust it at all.

The kindler, gentler terrorist. I am another Infidel isn't that stupid. The only "issues" are the fact that America's reaction was more damaging then their backward asses could handle, and that the tactics of Al Zawahiri have killed scores of "believers."

So it's not "honorable" to live among us then kill us... Is this the same "honor" (if they even had any to begin with) of those who would behead women for daring to date/marry someone who she loved?

The Quran also forbids war against society...
Using women in warfare...

We can't exactly say they play by anybody's rules, even the ones they supposedly say they follow. I'm with you on this one.

I just now noticed this thread, and forwarded it to several friends of mine who're devout Muslims (fanatically into Islam) and they laughed... Just as I did reading it...

His unit got to help a few QPs in a couple of raids, (he's a 19D, in one of the mountain regions... I'd say more, but idk if it'd be OPSEC or whatever...) and took down a "Distribution Center" it's all BS...

Himself and the men under him (including other devout Muslims) laughed, and even told me in a letter how they are still going to do what they can to hunt down AlZ, and the Doctor, and introduce them to a nice acid bath...

I chuckled reading the letter...

It honestly makes me glad QPs, and regular Army Troops, and other Servicemen who serve myself, and my Nation haven't lost sight of the goal... (Honestly, I hope to be a member soon to help meet that end-goal, and hopefully future goals of my nation, but how things are going... It may take me ever so longer :( ...)

Thank you guys for all you do, have done, and will do...
