Actually, the writer is more realistic than some of the upper HQ guys that think we can hit at 2000 meters on a regular basis. 1500 meters is about the far edge of that game and that is closer to the mile statement, though 1500 yards is realistic.
I think it was literary license for the poges that can't picture 1500 yards or meters but know a meter a fair distance. :D
