The black market for military goods is alive and well in the markets of Pakistan.

Reminds me what one of my nephews told me about his deployment to A-stan with 82nd a couple years back. All their gear, minus what they were carrying, was sent over via shipping containers into a port in Pakistan. The supposed agreement Pakistan had with the US was that they would provide ground transport from the port city into A-stan. No US military were allowed to escort the containers through Pakistan. When my nephew's unit got their containers delivered, they opened them up to find nothing but rocks. All radios, NODs and such were gone.

Now I know that sounds like one hell of a tall tale because you would think there is no way the US government would ever agree to something so stupid. You'd expect heads to roll and all kinds of flak to come out over something of this magnitude, especially in a war zone. However, I know I'm just a simple Team Sergeant and all, but I have come across several bizarre instances in both theaters that were so beyond the pale that I end up asking, "WTF?"

"WTF" is right. How in the hell do we let them get away with this s#* t? I don't get it. I guess it's just a fact of life operating in that AOR but you would think we'd learn something about what's going on and do something about it......................

The more things change...the more they remain the same...as in SEA, AFR, LA, and SWA.

IMO--this would be a good time to run a Pol Bean type operation with the laptops so that when certain programs are activated...;)

I understand it is cost efficient to send the equipment by boat to Pakistan. But once its at the dock, it seems like it would be safer to fly the connex's to Bagram, Kandahar, or wherever, instead of driving them in.

I guess the Pentagon doesn't mind if the Taliban borrows our gear and uses it against us.
