Good new if you live in ole Miss..:)
Mississippi Passes Legislation Protecting Gun Owners During Martial Law
Mississippi lawmakers have passed a bill to protect the state’s residents during martial law. On the Office of the Lieutenant Governor of Mississippi website, Phil Bryant announces the passage of SB 2036. The legislation “restricts the power of a peace officer to confiscate firearms and ammunitions in an emergency or during a time of martial law,” according to the website.
Senator Merle Flowers
It is significant that Lieutenant Governor Bryant mentions the law applies to martial law.
Mississippi senator Merle Flowers authored the bill and referred it to the Judiciary on January 6. It passed the Senate on February 4. According to the Mississippi bill status website, the act amends Section 33-7-303 of Mississippi Code of 1972 and “explicitly restrict the power to confiscate firearms and ammunitions in an emergency.”
Mississippi passes the law reaffirming the Second Amendment at approximately the same time a number of states are introducing and passing resolutions and bills declaring sovereignty from the federal government and buttressing the Tenth Amendment.

Hmmm...I'd like to see them try that one here in Texas...which is why I'm living here. Same thing with that anti-picket knife bill in Hawaii--they can come after my pocket knife if they want to give me an opportunity to express my 2nd Amendment rights. :lifter

Well - we're relooking State's Rights, when does "nullification" resurface? :munchin

I can't understand these programs. What is the logic behind it?

I think the logic, by appearance it looks like a civic good deed. HEY we took 75 guns off the streets pat us on the back! If a stolen gun is found, or one that was used in a crime you get even more mileage out of this.

The following link is to an article about the failed gun ban in England. It's a bit lengthy but worth it.

I wonder how many fell for this trick that obviously has an agenda behind it??
Last night I was at Walmart and tried to buy some 380 auto ammo. They were out of all 380 auto ammo. I did find some 38 plus P 125 G Winchester ammo. As most know, ammo is getting scarce. Here in TN, firearms have been selling like hotcakes. Many dealers have run out of ammo for certain popular calibers.
Save your ammo. I just shoot 22LR for practice these days.. :(

Obama has really helped gun ownership and ammo sales since he took office.
And people say he does nothing for the economy! ;)

Same thing happened when WJC took office...and I've still got my guns. Seems every time a Dim becomes POTUS, the sheeple stampede. ;)

I finally found all the 380 auto ammo I wanted at Gun City here in Nashville on Murfreesboro RD. The owners told me they were the only store in the area with 380 auto.
Side note question? Anyone familiar with a Ruger GP-100 with rosewood grips? The pistol/revolver was used, but; it appeared in excellent cond. I could not see a mark on the weapon anywhere. They want $394 for it. Anyone have any advice? I was going to buy it for the wife for her bedside table and personal protection when I am gone. Any recommendations for a pistol for a fragile woman?

I don't know, it seems to me that we lost the opportunity to buy quite a few weapons for cosmetic reasons during his tenure.
David Koresh and Randy Weaver were attacked by Federal LEOs over firearms ownership issues.
The Brady Bill imposed some pretty serious changes as well.
The Brits lost their gun rights a little bit at the time. Each time, in the name of common sense laws and minor inconvenience. I see a lot of new anti-2nd Amendment legislation being proposed, and little ever gets rolled back. When the next AWB passes, it will not have an expiration date.
I hope you can keep that position through the next four years.

I have seen the same thing. I went to the local Cabela's last weekend to look at a handgun. The gun section was really buzzing, with long lines just to get to the counters. I have never had a handgun, other than an old .22 I carried while trapping. I guess I am one of the sheeple that are thinking it may be now or never. That said, I wish to thank everyone here for the great info on the subject. I have spent hours reading the shooting/weapons threads as I try to make the right decision while CC is still an option in this occupied state. I do not want to be of the tinfoil hat ilk, but do not want to be unprepared either.
ELENA (AP) - Montana lawmakers fired another shot in battles for states’ rights as they supported letting some Montana gun owners and dealers skip reporting their transactions to the federal government.
Under House Bill 246, firearms made in Montana and used in Montana would be exempt from federal regulation. The same would be true for firearm accessories and ammunition made and sold in the state.
“What we need here is for Montana to be able to handle Montana’s business and affairs,” Republican Rep. Joel Boniek told fellow lawmakers Saturday. The wilderness guide from Livingston defeated Republican incumbent Bruce Malcolm in last spring’s election.
Boniek’s measure aims to circumvent federal authority over interstate commerce, which is the legal basis for most gun regulation in the United States. The bill potentially could release Montanans from both federal gun registration requirements and dealership licensing rules. Since the state has no background-check laws on its own books, the legislation also could free gun purchasers from that requirement.
“Firearms are inextricably linked to the history and culture of Montana, and I’d like to support that,” Boniek said. “But I want to point out that the issue here is not about firearms. It’s about state rights.”
The House voted 64-36 for the bill on Saturday. If it clears a final vote, the measure will go to the Senate.
House Republicans were joined by 14 Democrats in passing the measure.
“I would hope that our U.S. Supreme Court would begin to retreat from what I think is an abusive interpretation of our interstate commerce clause,” said Rep. Deborah Kottel, a Democrat from Great Falls who supports the measure.
That clause in the U.S. Constitution grants Congress authority to regulate commerce with foreign nations, and among the states. The Supreme Court has handled cases seeking to limit the clause’s application in recent years. In 2005, the court upheld federal authority to regulate marijuana under the clause, even when its use is limited to noncommercial purposes n such as medical reasons n and it is grown and used within a state’s borders.
The Montana bill follows fears here and elsewhere that the election of Barack Obama as president will trigger more gun regulation. In the months before Obama’s inauguration, Montanans rushed to stock up on guns, pushing gun sales beyond normal benchmarks despite the recession.
Opponents of the measure worry lax regulations in the state could lead to a similar surge in both gun sales and gun manufacturing.
“Who are we bringing in and is this the kind of business we want to have in this state?” asked Rep. Sue Malek, D-Missoula. “I want our state to be recognized as a state that cares about people, and that cares about the environment.”
The bill is one of a number the Legislature is considering that may extend gun rights in Montana.
Earlier in the week, the House passed another measure, HB228, that would let Montanans carry concealed weapons in city limits without having permits.

The news about Montana is a far cry from some of the legislation scares that are buzzing around right now. God Bless those boys and girls up there!!
A $1 million dollar insurance policy for gun owners? Are you kidding me? They are not going to take away our 2nd Amend. right; just trying to make it completely unaffordable to own a firearm. I used to reside in Montana, and am seriously thinking about going back: It's the only place that I would feel secure from all the BS right now!

Its scary alright, but its been referred to committee with no co-sponsors, which may indicate that no one else wants the stink of it on them. Its still probably worth a letter to your representatives, especially if they're on the Homeland Security committee.
