How I loathe stupid police Chief's.
This is not a terrorist attack you moron it's attempted homocide, a criminal act not an act of terrorism.

A prominent Arkansas doctor heading to work Wednesday was blown up in his driveway when a powerful bomb ripped through his car and knocked him into a flowerbed.
Dr. Trent Pierce, the 54-year-old head of the Arkansas Medical Board, was badly burned in the mystery attack and listed in very critical condition.
"It's a terrorist attack on Dr.Pierce," said Robert Paudert, police chief of West Memphis, a small and affluent Arkansas community just across the river from Memphis, Tenn.
"We just don't know why someone would do this," Paudert said. "We have had no threats on Dr.Pierce. He was loved and respected by everybody."
Pierce found a spare tire propped against his car at 8 a.m. and was moving it away when a tremendous explosion that was heard for blocks threw him into a flowerbed.
He lost at least one eye and suffered shrapnel wounds and burns to the face.
Cops said the bomb was placed under the front of the car. All the vehicle's windows remained intact but the hood of the white Lexus hybrid was left a mangled tangle of metal.

"Pierce is, however, named as a co-defendant with a nursing home operator dogged by dozens of allegations of abuse, neglect and wrongful death in a case that last month made its way to the Arkansas State Supreme Court."
Maybe he was looking to do himself in and wanted it to look like he was a target? It will be interesting to see how this unfolds in the coming days.

Not terrorism, unless he does abortions and this is by a radical anti-abortion person/group. (I do not confuse anti-abortion and Pro-Life).
Maybe Chief Taylor declared it an act of terrorism to get himself some of those government $$$ to better equip the Barney Fife's of his department...or to pay salaries and not have to lay off any of his good buddies, cousins, or whomever. :rolleyes:

Those were some of my first thoughts......., second thought was the chief was just an idiot.
A "Bomb" has got to equal terrorism. Had the doctor been attacked with a butter knife I doubt the media would have even picked up the story. This is what happens when the Chief of Police of Anytown America watches too much "24".
My family is originally from western Arkansas, and we still go every year to place flowers on the graves of our ancestors.
Am hoping the police can figure out what happened...it is a beautiful part of Our Country.

Usually translated "who profits?" or "who wins?" one of the first questions asked in investigation of a criminal act.
Who stands to "win" or "profit" from the death of the doctor?
- His wife, for the life insurance?
- A disgrundled applicant rejected for a medical license by the Board?
- A doctor who had his medical license pulled for malpractice?
- A resident/relative of a resident of a nursing home injured/killed at the home?
- A criminal defendant that the doctor would testify against pursuant to an autopsy/investigation?
etc.
And there the investigation should begin, together with the forensics of the bomb itself.

After doing some reading this attack might not be profit driven at all, might be just plain old revenge.

Absolutely!
My first thoughts were that he pulled someone's license and now he was being targeted. My second thought is that he is up to no good and did it himself.
The bomb went off while he was outside the car. Here are a few things: He set it off himself (he obviously did not want to be in the car when it went off) or whoever set it off remotely wasn't savvy enough to make a large enough device to do any real harm and knew that, thereby setting it off as the doc approached his vehicle. It is possible that someone got some wires crossed and set it up to his remote opening instead of his ignition, hence the reason it blew up as he was approaching the car. A closer examination of the car will tell a lot.
FWIW-
My money is on a pressure-release device, victim-actuated. It's really the only guaranteed way to get someone, other than remote detonating, which probably would have resulted in an immediate arrest. The spare tire was there to draw his attention to a particular spot, and was probably used to hold down the detonator, hence the objects size. I'm willing to bet the tire itself saved this mans life, absorbing most of the fragmentation. Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure my dog could pull this one off. IMHO, these type of incidents are only on the rise.
Also, DHS is probably going to give this sheriff 500k to buy a new Bomb Squad vehicle and a couple robots.

Most people looking to kill themselves are not going to try and build a bomb to blow themselves up. I think the notion that it was a suicide attempt is right out.
If he were an abortionist, it could have been terrorism. The classic definition of terrorism is the use (or threat) of violence to influence people's thinking. Eric Rudolph, for example, was a domestic terrorist, by the definition. The intent of the perp cannot be deduced till the case is further developed.
At the same time, the facts thus far are pointing to a personal grudge, IMHO, it was someone with an axe to grind with the Doctor.
I do agree that LE leadership, particularly those who seem to have risen to management positions through political patronage or influence, seem to leap quickly to the T word, and normally with a bill attached to it.
There are a lot of simple ways to have rigged such a device with common items, none of which are going to be discussed in any detail here.
