Rumor has it that in the '50's and '60's airborne unit DX their bad vehicle's using the heavy drop method.

Quiet word's over a beer in the stag bar at either club could arrange for a vechile to have a parachute malfunction on the next heavy drop.

I can't let this go without comment.

First, to the best of my recollection, I do not recall a DX program as described. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Now to the video, I think I was at a few of those. You can see why the Army stopped LAPES; you FOGs may remember the Sheridan on Sicily? The jumper under the square reminds me of Jimbo B. (who knows it probably was him).

Side story: When I was in Rigger School, I made a huge mistake by saying "Close enough for government work" during the personnel pack phase (thought I was comedian, I guess). I learned I could do a LOT more push-ups that I thought I could. Follow-up, the instructor that heard me was a SFC and retired as a CW4. After not seeing him for almost 20 years, he walked up behind me at a Rigger Ball and dropped me for 20; fun in dress blues.

Yeah, sometimes those big squares will continue to fly under heavy breaking if they are lightly loaded.

When I was in the 27th Cbt Eng Bn ABN. My platoon had a 2.1/2 to dump truck that had 6 jumps an we never had a bad one. But Damn...I never thought a forklift could go a 120 MPH. some kinda record...Blitzzz
