Today we Finns celebrate our 91st Independence Day.

Today we also remember and honor those men and women who paid for that independence with blood and sweat and preserved it, in bitter fighting in the Winter, Continuation and Lapland wars.

A salute your way.

What kind of celibrations are on tap in your neck of the woods?

The biggest single celebration is the invitational gala at the Presidential palace.

I just took some candles to my grandparents grave, grandpa was a war veteran.

I think in many homes it is a more quiet celebration, over good food, sauna and perhaps a few glasses raised to toast.

Happy Independence Day to you and your country Tuukka. My grandmother was a Finn, she knew the price of freedom.

Happy Independence day!

I've read a little about the Finn's fight against the Soviets during WWII - as I understand it, heroism was a common virtue.

Tuukka,
Congratulations on your Independence Day.

Good of you to honor your Grandparents.

Some day I will tell you what Col. Applegate told me what he learned about the use of a knife from a hard Finnish soldier.

We had better not screw up Tuukka's thread.

The information came from the Col.'s OSS days and the answer is "yes".
