View Full Version : Possible WMD attack by 2013 says panel
IMO....it may be sooner than 2013.
Chances of WMD attack in big city greater
WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The chances of a terror attack on a major city somewhere in the world using weapons of mass destruction are better than even, according to a task force mandated by the U.S. Congress, The Washington Post reported in its Tuesday edition.
A draft study by the panel warns of growing threats from rogue states, nuclear smuggling rings and the spread of atomic information in the developing world, the newspaper reported.
The panel, the Commission on the Prevention of Weapons of Mass Destruction Proliferation and Terrorism, singled out Pakistan as a grave concern because of its network of terror groups, history of instability and nuclear capabilities, according to the report.
"In our judgment, America's margin of safety is shrinking, not growing," the newspaper quoted from the draft report.
The panel said it is more likely that a terror attack, which could also include biological weapons, will take place by the end of 2013, according to the report.
Former Sen. Bob Graham, a Florida Democrat, chaired the commission with former Rep. James Talent, a Missouri Republican, as the vice chairman.
The commission recommended the overhaul of international nonproliferation treaties, including more robust inspections by the International Atomic Energy Agency, the report said.
The panel also urged President-elect Barack Obama to take a tough line with Iran and North Korea.

Then it's a good thing that our incoming President is going to clip the CIA/NSA wings and move the GWOT back to the law enforcement realm. The American people made a deal with the devil back in November. If this comes to fruition I suspect history will be much kinder to President Bush than it will be to Obama.

I saw and read that......
Don't quote me but I think the adage "We're going to get attacked by _____________" (fill in the blank) has been used every year since we invented the A-Bomb.
I don't buy it. I also don't agree with making our government any bigger just because someone is yelling the sky is falling, again.
But if you're looking to make your next million you might want to look at companies that make/sell nuclear, bio or chemical detection and bio-suits.;)

BOOM....follow the money. Nothing in that article is new.

Don't quote me but I think the adage "We're going to get attacked by _____________" (fill in the blank)
I want to fill in the blank! Let's see . . .
1. Dirty bombs
2. Communism
3. The predictions of Nostradamus
4. The pedictions of the Mayans
5. Planet X
6. Lizard people
4. The Canadians (No lie, I found this website www.standingonguard.com and since the Internet would not lie, those pesky Canadians are getting ready to overthrow the world)
5. Killer Bees
6. Mutant Dogs
7. Mutant dogs with bees in their mouths and when they bark they shoot bees at you.
Well, hells bells...if they're gonna do something like that anyway, let's not waste the opportunity to show our empathy with their f'in' cause by giving them a target to practice on...some place we'd all like to see leveled like East LA, Detroit, New Orleans, or the like...and then turn the captured terrs over to the likes of Matthew f'in' Alexander so we can use those kinder and gentler interrogation techniques of his to find out who their leaders are. After the last general elections, I'm all for removing a few congressional districts from the rolls of this country about now. :p :D

That's a tough list to follow. I mean how can you beat No. 7? I would have listed Marxists or socialists but that has already happened. What about Morlocks or Flying Japanese Sand Tigers?
I have a solid tip that it's going to be Cain Toads.

Outstanding advice. I think we need to add duct tape and plastic to the list, tho!

One of these days I need to compare what the findings were from this Commission to the findings of the 2005 Final Report of the Commission on the Intelligence Capabilities of the United States Regarding Weapons of Mass Destruction.
Because if it doesn't exist, how can it hurt you?
"What now, Lieutenant?"

Right after 9/11 my little brother called and asked if he should purchase a chemical protective mask due to the NSA, CIA, FBI, etc etc etc etc threat warnings.........
The simple minded folks were scared and the morons the Government appoints as "experts" as leaders in the field don't help matters.
Case in point: Gay Gov janet napolitano to head homeland security.... now if that doesn't scream stupid I don't know what does.
Government purchasing of really useless equipment should flourish under the next president.........
If I recall corrently under pres slick willy we in the military purchased billions in "Anti"-terrorist equipment, and it has saved, who? I led the charge in SF calling this idea stupid, we needed more "counter" terrorist equipment, bullets, weapons, explosives, radios trainning etc etc etc. IMO The US military should not "kneel" to terrorists, we should have instead responded to the threat of terrorism by eliminating the threat and in turn make the terrorists fear us, not the other way around. Slick Willie (then president bill clinton) responded to terrorists with kindness and spent the billions on "passive" anti-terror measures. And look where we are today.....
Just keep yelling the sky is falling and someone will be getting rich.....
We are indeed our own worst enemy.

I can speak from the LEO side of things, we got all kinds of little bells and whistles as a result of the Department Homeland Security anti-terrorism kit push, we got an air sensor that they had a 2 hour training on, and in that 2 hours only about a third of the class could get the thing calibrated properly, I'd hate to know what it cost to outfit every cop in the nation with those little things, and I never not once even took the thing out of the box, and that was just one of many little boxes DHS purchased for us Local LEOs, I had probably 3 or 4 other boxes in my trunk they bought for us, none of which was in the least bit useful, most of which we weren't even trained on, hell we got this huge map that had all the important locations in the state on it from HS, didn't have many streets but it told where all the local NG armories were in the state and where all the little airports were IIRC, I'm sure they spent millions on that crap as well, we had boxes of those things just sitting around.
Our government is great at spending money, they just buy the wrong crap constantly. Our tax dollars at work, and like TS said it's going to get much worse under B0 and his new Secretary of the DHS.

I think pet masks and NBC suits would be perfect. The rich crowd were buying masks for their expensive rat dogs right after 9/11. The liability would be a joke, all you'd need to do is declare the owner didn't properly suit up their pet due their own panic and pets resistance. That and they failed to shave their pet to insure a proper mask seal. Besides, they'd most likely have forgotten where they left the gear, not survive themselves, never be close to such an event. But they'd spend the money.

Sort of ranks right up there with the bomb shelters being built in back yards in the 1950's.
And after 9/11, wasn't someone marketing a parachute for people working in skyscrapers?
