He is such a tool. Very political and walks that fine line like a pro.
Being a consultant is his key to staying out of trouble.

I would not agree that he has been flurishing quietly. The WAD was a good example of doing work and doing it quietly. Mc Caffrey is very public and has his fingers into a lot of areas.

We used to refer to him as "The Smokebringer" and "The BM" (Bowel Movement) when he was Asst Commandant and Chief of Infantry at Fort Benning. He was very forthright and plain speaking, and quite a few Company/Battalion Commanders felt his wrath after an unannounced walk through by Barry if your unit wasn't squared away or the troops weren't being taken care of properly. :lifter

He was an ass-kickin' 24th ID CDR, too, but seemed to change as he went further up the political food chain to end up as the SOUTHCOM CDR and so-called Drug Czar. Too bad.

Richard's $.02 :munchin

IMHO, he is an egomaniac with delusions of grandeur.

They still tell stories about how he abused people as the 24th ID CG.

I worked for him when he was the CINCSOUTH, and he was an absolute asshole who spent more time worrying about his press than he did his people.

My understanding was that his career got restarted when he had a run-in with Hillary at the White House and kept his mouth shut about it.

I see him as a Wes Clark with some actual combat creds and personal valor.

Kept his mouth shut about what? Would you mind explaining what you meant?

Best regards,
