View Full Version : Is this happening everywhere?
I stopped into Jensen Arms in Loveland, Co yesterday on my way back down to the springs and walked into a barren wasteland of a gun store. There was probably 30+ people in there but the walls that are usually covered in assorted hunting rifles, shotguns and carbines were pretty sparse. I couldn't find Bob Jensen in the store and his sister looked more worried than usual. Are gun stores all over the country being cleaned out because of the elections or is this just a Christmas thing? I don't remember it being this bad last year.
When I'm between contracts, I part time at a store in central PA. Six months ago, we were selling 2-3 ARs a week. When I left the last time (mid October), we were probably selling 4-5 a week. The shop carries Colt, S&W, Stag, LMT, BM, and the occasional RRA.
One of my buddies emailed me a week ago and told me that since the election, they had been selling 6-8 A DAY, until they started running low. Everything else is apparenlty flying off the shelves, too.
I don't think this is a Christmas thing, and although I was broke in '94, even after people knew what the AWB was going to restrict, it wasn't anywhere near this bad.
It was swamped at every gunstore I went to for 3 weeks immediately after the election and has died down a bit since. I would wager there is likely to be another run in January.

I can't speak for everywhere, but it's definitely happening in SC. I went to a gun show today that normally gets around 3K visitors the whole weekend, they had more than that in the first day, and it was pretty slim pickings for assault rifles, only a couple of AK's in the whole joint.
Another shop I went to last week normally has 21K plus in black rifles, last week they had 4 total.

Went to the Raleigh gunshow last Sunday, there was a line over 100 meters long to get in. Parking almost impossible. They said that Saturday, it was twice as bad, taking over an hour to get in.
Since the previous show, AKs had gone from $300 to $600. AK Mags went up from $9 each to $19. 7.62x39 ammo which had been $159/M had gone up to &$279/M, if you could find any. 5.56 was gone, as were ARs.
I think that people have seen through Obama and his claims to be pro- Second Amendment, and know exactly what he, Nancy, and Harry have in mind.
Some of it is panic driven, but that will not keep me from buying more too, if the price is right.
Fortunately, at this point, I do not have too many items left on my wish list, other than to be left alone.

I had been putting off buying an AR for years. About a week after the election I started to hit the gun stores here in town. The only place that had anything left (for an un-inflated price) was Jim's. Which suprised me, they are usually the most expensive. The guy told me they put 20 AR's out that morning. Buy the time I got there to buy mine they had 5 left. I was going to buy one on-line, but the week prior to the election every AR on all of the on-line auctions vanished. Lucky for me I've been preping to buy an AR for some time. I already had all of the rails, mags, ammo, and accesories already purchased. The only thing left to do is enjoy it.

I also went to the Raleigh Gun Show on Saturday. It took us about an hour to get in. Also the local Gun Shops... Guns Plus, Ed's have been selling guns and ammo left and right. I am curious to see how much the prices increase.
Everything is going... Try to find a lower receiver parts kit for a pre-election price... Everything is out of stock, even Sportsman's guide... I have two lower parts kits on back-order until Dec 30. Lower receivers are flying off the shelves too. I think the big difference between 94 and now is, people really didn't know how bad things would get under the 94 ban. Once they found out their mags and everything else doubled, or tripled in price... it was too late. Now they know and are stocking up. I think a lot of those ARs on auction sites disappeared because the owners pulled them... The election just made them worth double, triple, or more... Hopefully things won't go up too much before I get the M1A in January.

Good luck finding one, none of the shops in my area have any in stock, there was 1 at the gunshow and it was used, and not really what I was looking for.
I sincerely hope you have better luck.

We sold all our AR's and when I was at our Headquarters just before Thanksgiving we starting selling used ARs - that's how badly people are scrambling for rifles right now. Same scare came by when George Sr left office and Clinton took over. I - like most of us - spent a lot of money protecting our Second Amendment rights in the 90's and we need to be prepared to do it again, eh?
If you aren't already a life member of the NRA yet you need to join now!

I'm in Ft. Collins and know Jensen's fairly well. I grabbed the last case of 223/5.56 they had on the shelf. They were inundated with customers till the the wee hours of the eve and it looked like there was no letting up. I was informed how much the cost of ammo had gone up within the past year or so and it made my heart sick.

I happened to be looking through the October 2009 edition of NRA Rifle magazine at my son’s house, and noticed an article with Chuck Norris :lifterpictured supporting our Second Amendment Rights and recommending that those people interested in doing the same should look at the following website: http://www.triggerthevote.org.
I looked at the website and found the following:
“There is a fear in our great nation – one that is not without basis.
Americans coast to coast are buying guns and ammunition at a record pace, because they fear that their Right to Keep and Bear Arms is in danger. And they are correct.
This fear has caused nationwide shortages of guns and ammunition. But emptying the shelves at gun stores is not the answer.
The answer is to Trigger the Vote.
Newly registered voters decided the last election. And they may decide the next one.
Listen to my message.
Then join me – help Trigger the Vote today.
I’ll know if you don’t.”

I used the search feature on the PS site, and didn’t get any hits on “triggerthevote” or “trigger the vote”, so I thought I’d post this information for those that might be interested.
Initially, I wasn’t sure if I should post this new thread in “The Early Bird,” “Weapons Discussion,” or “The Soapbox” discussion areas.
My personal thanks to Richard for pointing me in the right direction on this topic.
