We have been using various GPS to help in our route recons and Photo logs for some time.

A new tool that is out there is the Sony "GPS-CS1KASP". You can use it with over 80 different Sony Handy-cams and cameras. It retails from $99 USD on Amazon to $150 on Sony. What you do is sinc the Camera and GPS together and go out and run your routes with the GPS on and take your Video or Photos as needed. When you down load the GPS data and then your Photos yith software sinc's the info together for you. Beats the hell out of having to do a photo log and manually doing the links as many other softwares have you do. Impressive, even at the $150.00 price.

Compatability list was extensive for use with other Sony products. I'd like to see if this will adapt to other makes, ie. Cannon or Olympus.

Would this work with underwater equipment?

Put it in a Floating Pelican, teather it to you so it is on the surface as you swim and take pictures. The key is sincing the devices prior to use. Just my take if you needed it for that.

Yeh I liked it so much I ordered one for my self.....
Amazon was the best price $99 for the GPS and I ordered extra memory for $29 more (4GB card)

Yes I have one and here is the AAR you asked for.

Basic setup prior to use is as follows:

Step 1 - Is to load the software. (GIT and PMB) That went without a hiccup.

Step 2 - Tested the GPS outside and then connected it to the USB and it opens a window and you download the log. Remove and press the Zero Button to clear the GPS. Erase the log from the test in the software and you are ready.

Step 3 - Get on the INTERNET and update your clock. Then manually set the date and time of your Sony Camera. (FYI: From their propaganda you would think that the GPS and camera are connected to sync them up but they are not.)

Step 4 - Go out and trun on the GPS. Give it a min or two and go on your trip/drive/etc and shoot your shots.

Trip is done:

When you come back connect the GPS and download the track into the program (GPS Image Tracker "GIT"). Give it a name and save. Connect your camera and copy your photos.

In GIT you then select a photo and save its GPS data. do that to each one. Now your sync may be a little off and your points are off a little, do not worry.

Go in and add the files back into GIT and then click Corrections and a pop-up will appear. Use the R or L arrow and you will see all the points move. Zoom in on one area and move the point to where it is supposed to be. Now all points are synced up and you save them and your set.

It took me a lot of play until I figured it out. The book was not as helpful as I would have liked but who needs a manual.

You also have another program "PMB" - Picture Motion Browser. This is the one that you use to keep vacation photos on calenders, etc.

I give it a thumbs up for Ease of use and Utility.:D

NOTE: They say that it is compatible with a long list of Sony Cameras but it may work with any digital camera with a synced clock. I will test that theory in the future and see if it works. It may just be a Sony ploy to make you buy Sony only. We will see.
