What there are not reporting in the printed news and why it’s a FIRST DEGREE Murder.
Officer Gerrard was headed to a local all night Wal-Mart to get something at about 2300 hours.
Apparently these two teens wanted to go to a PARTY in Goodyear Arizona and had no vehicle. So they went out to jack a car.
One laid in the street while the other waited in AMBUSH with a SHOTGUN and when officer Gerrard pulled over to help the teen laying in the street the other came out and shot him point blank in the chest with a shotgun. The took the keys from the officers pocket and then took his car and when they returned they burnt the car to destroy any evidence.
The police know all this because one of the "teens" turned himself in. I know because it was reported by Fox news Phoenix last night.
This has got to be one of the most callous and disgusting displays of human behavior I've heard of in a long long time.
I’m surprised this didn’t make national news.

"He leaves behind a 2-year-old son and wife, who is eight weeks pregnant."
What a horrible situation. There's no telling whether the two will even get proper punishment due to juvenile status.
I'm curious as to how they came up with the sg if they were at a party and had no vehicle.
we need a return to public hangings. evil like this needs to be put down like a rabid dog. there is no fixing those "kids"
Prayers for officer Gerrard and his family.
As for the two perps - words fail me.

about 15 years ago, we had a rash of this type of crime
someone would lie in the road as if injured and when a pedestrian stopped to help, his fellow gang members would come out of the bushes and shoot the victim
Prayers out for the officers family
This has got to be one of the most callous and disgusting displays of human behavior I've heard of in a long long time.
Can only hope Officer Gerrard's fellow DOC officers will get a nice head's up of these two "Teens" arrival at the nearest Pen!
That way, they can throw these "Teens" in with the general population and wait for the steam to rise.
Rest In Peace Officer Gerarrd.

Prayers out for the officer and his family........
and reservations in hell for the perps.......
Absolutely horrible...RIP Officer, my thoughts are with your family. :(
What is the matter with these people. I cant even fathom wanting to do anything like that. What kind of disgusting human being do you have to be to do such a thing.

If they're old enough to drive the car or fire the shotgun, they're old enough to get a needle in the arm, and we should throw their parents in jail as well for raising the little scumbags. May the lot of them burn in hell for all of eternity.
Officer Gerrard, rest in peace brother.

This was a horribly disgusting crime. A really shocking part is to hear neighbors and friends describe the two murderers as "normal kids". However, they constantly wandered the neighborhoods, took meals and hung out at other family's houses, and seemed to always be "looking". The fearful part for me is I see kids like this every day. Aimless, undirected, non-disciplined, truly uncared for. Watch out in the future. This won't be the last...

In a fundamentally stable and civil social environment, (not a war zone), "Pre-meditated" REQUIRES a significantly different approach to metting out punishment; Age be damned. Malice-aforethought is not necessarily a prerequisite for mercy.
Especially when a man is unnecessarily, killed and his son or daughter is left alone to ask, "why is my daddy dead now?".
My prayers go out to cover this family. May GOD be merciful on his slayers; I may not be so.
JMHO.....

Gypsy,
back when I was good friends with the Deputies who transported convicted inmates to the state Penitentiaries, they would tell me what happened when they received a murderer (LEO and otherwise) or a child rapist at a particular Pen. The "white Shirts" as they were called would be ready for that individual in a nearby room. They almost never came out looking like they did before they went in.:)
If they were LEO & DOC murderers, there second stop was always the infirmary.
I witnessed this once with an inmate who murdered two girls in cold blood then carved them up with a hunting knife. They nearly killed him in that room.
RIP you will be missed.
What is this country coming to. Family values and eroding daily. We have to turn the corner and fix this problem.
They almost never came out looking like they did before they went in.:)
Can't say I'd have a problem with that.

Police ID two teens charged with murder of Buckeye officer
Buckeye police have identified two teenagers charged as adults in the murder of a Department of Corrections Officer.
Benjamine Cannon, 15, and Felix Vasquez, 16, are now facing first-degree murder and armed robbery charges.
"He's been arrested, he hasn't been convicted yet," said Cannon's next door neighbor, Susan Laurita, who said the Cannon family is welcome in her home anytime.
Bradley Gerrard, 28, was found dead just after midnight Sunday in the median of the road at Tartesso Boulevard and Bruner Road in Buckeye. His car was discovered several miles away, partially burned.
Police said it appears the murder happened when the suspects carjacked Gerrard.
Court paperwork reveals Vasquez sneaked out to meet Cannon at a park near his Buckeye home.
Detectives said Cannon brought a shotgun and told Vasquez they were going to carjack someone so they could go to a party in Goodyear.
Vasquez said he lay down at the intersection of Tartesso and Bruner while Cannon hid behind a pillar.
Documents report that Vasquez said the victim pulled up and saw him lying on the ground.
Vasquez said Gerrrard got out and asked if he was alright.
That's when Vasquez said Cannon came running up and shot him in the chest.
But, Cannon tells a different story, saying he was the one lying in the road, while Vasquez was the shooter.
Police said there is no evidence to indicate that Gerrard was targeted because of his job.
Tracking dogs managed to pick up a scent from the crime scenes that lead them to the murder weapon and eventually the two teenagers, according to police.
"It does bring some relief," said Lt. Danny Coleman, a corrections officer who used to supervise Gerrard. "It's not over though, everyone has to hold their grief every day."
The investigation is ongoing but police said they don't think anyone else was involved.
Gerrard's wife, who asked not to be identified, spoke to ABC15 shortly after her husband's death.
"When the doorbell rang, I ran to the door and thought it was him," she said. "When I saw the two officers, I said, 'Is he dead?' They said, 'How did you know?'"
"They got nothing, but they took everything," said the victim's wife. "They took my life, they took my family, they took my love. He meant everything to me."
Gerrard's wife is eight weeks pregnant with the couple's second child. They already have a son.
"He was thrilled," said his wife. "When he got the ultra sound, he framed it and showed everyone at work. He was so excited."
"I don't want anyone else to have their family torn apart like this, to have your soul-mate taken from you," she said.
Gerrard was assigned to the Arizona State Prison Complex-Lewis. He's been a corrections officer since 2004.
Vasquez and Cannon are being held at the 4th Avenue Jail on a $2 Million bond each.

Callous and utterly Malicious................We should bring back public executions, swift and harsh punishment would help rectify the savage nature of these criminal acts.
Not one to blame video games, but when you see instances of these heinous crimes, you have to wonder.
RIP Officer Gerrard, blessings to the Family.

SF_BHT,
He's absolutely right, what is happening to this country? When stupid kids like this don't even realize or hesitate doing something like this. This may sound like an old fart talking about the way that things use to be,but when I was a kid s**t like this just didn't happen......:(
