A man named Leigh Price did a great deal of research on the Bakken formation.
He wrote a paper about it in 1999.
He died in 2000 before it could be peer-reviewed and published.
Since then, there has been a massive effort to dispute his findings, and he is obviously unable to defend his work.

The third sentence on page 235 of the text is the major source of controversy.
