I’d like to preface this post with a few facts; I am a carnivore, not to be confused with herbivore or omnivore. If it fly’s, walks, swims or slithers I've probably eaten it. Some individuals might think; "tonight I think I’ll just have a salad" or "I’ll just have some pasta and sauce", or a slice of pizza, not me, sometimes I just have a steak, no sides, just steak. Medium Rare, always medium rare, with just a bit of salt and fresh cracked pepper. That’s it.

If I do happen to have sides, I’ll eat the steak, pork chops, roast, rack of lamb, fish, chicken, quail, deer, buffalo etc etc etc first, then the sides.

I prefer my own cooking most of the time and I have the cookware, gadgets, grills, spices, oils, salts, wines, etc etc etc to do the job. I have dedicated an entire cabinet to spices, I have a dozens and dozens and dozens, maybe a hundred, different kinds of spices. I have about ten different kinds of oils, six-eight different types of vinegars and at any given moment there's 15-20 different types of cheeses in my fridge. I have a small garden, in it there’s thyme, basil, oregano, mint, parsley (curley), sage, tarragon etc etc etc.

All that said a couple of years ago Ambush Master sent me some seasoned salt, "Serendipity Seasoned Salt" that is. Now with all those spices I don’t have (or thought I needed) seasoned salt. Ambush Master said this stuff is different and I had to try it. So I did and I've been hooked ever since.

Today I just received in the mail a four pound tub of it, when I made the order I told the owners "I was tired of running out of their seasoned salt.";) I had always ordered before in smaller shaker sizes.

I don’t have any stake in the company and I’m not getting paid to say this, but this stuff is the best dammed seasoned salt I've ever tasted.

Go try it; if you like just the right amount of seasoning this will hit the spot.

http://www.jesshall.com/

"Serendipity Seasoned Salt" is the one I purchase most of and really enjoy on a steak.

If you order some tell the owners; "A Special Forces Master Sergeant recommended it";)

I've been eating this stuff literally my entire life. The Halls are Great folks and very good friends of our family. Mr. Hall Flew SAR birds up in the Aleutian Islands during WWII and went on to Run Weatherford Oil Tool afterwards. He invented serendipity during a family cookout when he ran out of the seasoned salt that he normally kept on hand. Anyone with a Chicken Express Restaurant nearby can get some Serendipity Seasoned salt in both regular and hot varieties in packets from them, but to my knowledge, they are the only chain that I know of who consistently keep the stuff on hand.

Good times,
Blake

PS:
TS, if you haven't checked out Pensey's Spice Company (http://www.penzeys.com/cgi-bin/penzeys/shophome.html?id=ryrSe2da), I highly recommend them for quality and selection.

AM got me hooked on it as well.

I use the seasoned pepper too, it is great on everything, especially baked potatoes.

You can make pretty much everything but broccoli edible with this, to include some stuff that may have been dead and laying in the sun too long, if you get my drift.

TS,

I do all the cooking here. My spice rack/finishing salt rack loads first and second shelves of kitchen cabinets; I need to see them and grab them easily. I think the right amount of the right spices make the meal, IMHO. Having a lot of spices is not the whole story for me, the quest is for the "right" spice/seasoning is. I really like what finishing salts bring to the table.

Like you, meat is what I love the best, medium rare. I do like some surf with my turf. For dessert, a few slices of meat if you please. Salad and bread is always filler if there is not enough meat.

Jess Halls Seasoned Salt is next!

Thanks again!

TS: Thank's for the recommendation, I have been looking for a new spice to put on the prime porterhouse steak that I broil to medium rare. I tried that chemical substitute KCl (Potassium Chloride) and it was terrible, it ruined a good steak. Regard's, tom kelly

I ordered the 4lb tub with the free dispenser. I live in Ms. The chicken is what I'd also like to try but they don't have a place anywhere near here. I'll let you know the results. :D

Gail is GOOD PEOPLE!!! I've been like a son to them, ever-since I started running around with his son Jess E the III about 35 years ago. I have seen Mr. Hall hand out the small containers to waitresses, cooks, other wait-staff HUNDREDS of times, he'd just smile at them and just tell them that if they like it, the phone number (now web-site) is on the label!! They've sold THOUSANDS of pounds this way!!

There's a "Framed" letter in their house from someone on a rig in the North Atlantic that goes something like "Jess Hall you sorry SOB!!! You got me hooked on this stuff and I can't find any way to GET IT!! Find enclosed a $100.00 Bill, please send me as much as this will buy!!"

Big Jess sent him a SUBSTANTIAL amount of Serendipity, along with the $100.00 bill!!

Like I said, they are GOOD PEOPLE!!

Take care.

YES!!! And it is GREAT!!! They also have a (some?) Rubs that are OUTSTANDING!!

The Serendipty Season Blend (Without Salt) is fantastic . My favorite for it, is to sprinkle it on bacon before you cook it. Whether in a microwave or a skillet, it makes any bacon unbelieveably delicious!!

Glad you like it, as I stated it's different! I use it on quite a bit of items, such as grilled squash, asparagus, & zucchini. If I'm not making a peppercorn sauce or some other sort of sauce, I'll just use it instead of just seasoning.;)

Received my order from Jess Hall's yesterday. Pretty darned impressive when you consider I ordered it over the weekend! Not only did I get my order, Gail added a very nice personal note and some small shakers of other products to try. Very thoughtful. I used some of the hot seas. salt on some pasta last night, and it was great! Thanks for the recommendation/endorsement TS, AM, TR, Blake and others.

Ordered mine Tuesday, got it today. FAST SERVICE!

I'm going to try some of the Seredipity in a meatloaf tonight for my 18E who is home on con leave after taking a bullet during a patrol last month. He sure does like having Mom's home cooking. And I like having him home. ;)

I also got a few extra goodies, so if he likes the seasonings, I'll send the larger set back with him, and I'll keep the smaller samplers and order more later.

The Hall's are great people, just like the ones here at PS.com!

The price on shipping may seem high, until you have become 'hooked' on their seasonings. :D

I ordered the sampler pack several months ago and love the stuff. The seasoned salt and seasoned pepper are great on steaks and hamburgers. The surprise in the pack is their seasoning 'Eggcitement Breakfast Blend.' Now, I won't eat eggs without it. Their chili seasoning is easy and also makes a tasty meat chili.

I've even seen him hand it out to Patrons in establisments where we were either eating or as we were leaving!!

One thing should be pointed out, though. Don’t think of Lowry’s Seasoned Salt. It’s not the same. It’s basically what you’d put on meat anyway with a few extra ingredients you wouldn’t take the time with. There are no magic ingredients (just a magic processing machine which I got to see after signing an NDA :p).

I prefer the Seasoned Pepper. I find that I never use enough when cooking and have to add more at the table. The same is true with all but the EggCitment and Hot Seasoned Salt.

I haven’t used the Chili Mix yet, but my sister has and loves it because it’s not too spicy. Sounds like I’d have to add cayenne (I love Carol Shelby’s, BTW…the Chili Mix and the Cobra!).

Last night I had a taste for some french fries. Trying to be "healthy" I peeled and sliced up some sweet potatoes, length-wise about 1/4 inch in diameter, drizzled them with some olive oil and a very healthy sprinkling of Serendipity seasoned salt (I have the no MSG version). Baked for 40ish minutes at 450 degrees to crisp 'em up.

I think they were the best fries I've ever had. Crispy outside, soft inside and one hell of a flavor.
