I just got word today that I just got dropped from my Level II MACP slot, for a course through Gryphon Group, "Military Protective Services Detail Operations in a Mobile Environment Program" From the outline it sounds like some good training, definitely more applicable to my upcoming deployment, than Level II. (I think its quite obvious what I'll be doing)
I did a search and didn't really find too much, wondering if I could get some input on the LLC, and/or the course.
Anyone take this course? Likes, dislikes, advice, etc
Recommended Prep(Course or deployment)? FM 19-10, etc
Thanks in advance.

Great, great school. Probably the second best training I've ever received, second only to SERE. They provide everything you'll need there. I went back in 2005, and they were making it bigger and better, so I'm sure you'll enjoy it.
There's really no prep needed. The instructors are some of the most professional you'll find.
Have not done that course but have been through the Mobile FP Course. I liked it except for getting Tased & OCed.

Keep us posted on how it was
I went through one of thier mobile defensive courses in 2007. I had a great time and learned alot. Exellent training. I'm with exsquid on the taser and OC spray..........sucked. Pretty funny though, going force on force after we'd all been spayed.

Had a good discussion with one of their instructor at the SOFEX recently. He was advocating point shooting. Literary. No flash front sight, nothing. He also mentioned the sights are removed from student's pistol to train them the "OSS method." He also claims the elite trains this way, and it's battle tested.
I've read Paul Howe piece on that and other instructors with similar background. Have anyone taken pistol course at Gryphon group? Better yet, has had a chance to "apply" it. Is it as advertised?
frostfire, I remember a long thread here with many QPs weighing in on point shooting:

Not sure I'm tracking here, Reaper Sir.
I guess I need to work on clarity in my writing. I've perused that thread several times, VA Pete. As well as discussions on the same topic at other sites, and schools ie. Rogers. Hence the inquiry:
Gryphon group is a vetted training institution. Many QP's, as well as folks who work behind the fence I've taken care of, vouched for it. The driving course that is, not the pistol portion.
Paul Howe, Dave Harrington, Kyle Lamb, Rogers Shooting school, many QP's here are vetted subject matter expert.
So, when the two sides present opposing technique, I inquire any reconciliation/trade-offs, etc. I mean sure, at chin jab distance, I don't use sights either, but the GG instructor was advocating no sight for further distance.
Since I'm about to enroll myself in their marksmanship-related course, I'd like to solicit input from others who have gone through it :)

I went thru some of Gryphon's training, mainly driving, force on force, taser training (hated getting tased!) but the OC didn't bother me and I was still mobile. Great training if you do get it. As far as the pistol training goes, go in with a clear head and learn their techinque. Later you can determine if it will work for you, ie another tool in the tool box to fall back on.

I once had a 1SG when I was a mere PVT, right before him PCS'ing he gave a good speach that ill never forgot and that I always try to apply. He said he tries to take away the good in everything and learn something from everything and apply it to "HIS" kit bag. Meaning, we all have been through various types of taining over the years, and you take away the good and what works for you. Different situations call for different tactics, the more options you have on tackling a subject the better the outcome will be. The defensive Line doesnt use one play cause thats were they were taught as being the best, they make the best play possible to their assumed play against the offensive (our opposition). Im 6'2 227lbs, if I came around a corner 1-2ft away from you, id bet money that I was going to be muzzle punched and shot at the same time in a tactical situition. IMO most situations need a sight picture/sight alighnment. BUT like I said, every situation is different. If you got jumped by a few gang members (true story), would you worry about making sure all you fundamentals were in line, or what you point your gun in the general direction of your opponite?
I went through GG back in 2006 and the training was fun and realistic. They do a little more precision driving than your typical high speed tactical driving.

Point taken, and the same lesson re-learned for the nth time.
Thank you for your elaborate responses, gents
