I'm thinking of acquiring a cookie press. I want high quality and durability - but usability is important too.

I found two that look interesting. Kaiser Bakeware makes a stainless steel version, and I'm leaning in that direction. Kaiser (http://www.cookware.com/Kaiser-Bakeware-662220-KSR1163.html)

Marcato makes an aluminum version; it doesn't have the ratchet mechanism of the Kaiser. Marcato (http://www.cheftools.com/prodinfo.asp?number=06-0423)

Or, perhaps there are versions I'm not aware of.

Thoughts? Comments?

Thanks in advance.

I don't think there's enough PVW in the house to properly "muse" the implications of your question. :munchin QPs are the font of all wisdom and most of us are secure enough in our manhood to admit knowing what a cookie press is but why ask here?

FWIW - until the pros get here - I prefer stainless and ratcheting. The last one I owned was inherited from my mother. I don't recall the brand but it was aluminum with a screw drive. Lots of control, power etc, but lacked overall because the soft aluminum of the body and the endcaps tended to jam if I wasn't careful assembling it.

Have never used a cookie press. What we do is roll the dough in parchament paper to whatever diameter we desire, then place in the refer to set. When set, using a knife, we cut to the thickness we need. It is a pain in the arse to stuff the dough in a press; and most times the dough get caught in the extruder port. Basically just roll a log chill it and cut to size.

Stainless for quality and durability....

As a Kid I made lot with my mother during the holidays and we did them with a Press and as Pen said roll and cut. I like the Press and I have a lot of cookie cutters that my kids like to make special cookies also.

Wow, nmap. Those are some impressive presses you've linked there.

I'll have to confess I grew up on a Wilton's aluminum and mine is also the same.

Wilton (http://www.wilton.com/store/site/department.cfm?id=3E304EDF-475A-BAC0-5F8D286A21E1633E&fid=3E305B82-475A-BAC0-54D6E3753A581BFB), apparently has gone to a clear plastic body, so I can't tell you how well they work, but they are just a wee bit less expensive.

This one is on my kitchen wish list: http://www.pamperedchef.com/our_products/catalog/product.jsp?productId=600&categoryCode=BK

I know several folks who have it, and they are very pleased.

As you say, Sir, QPs are the font of all wisdom and knowledge. I have come across many smart, well educated people over the course of my life - the QPs are ahead of them in most areas. I did a search on a site specifically dedicated to cooking. It may interest you to know that the answers here were very much superior to their answers.

Again, thank you.

We are not trying to sell anything like the cooking sites are. We are just Winning your heart's and Minds. Some times food works when we are infiltrating. We take over the kitchen by converting the cook and her followers and after many months we open the Food Channel and get everyone watching TV and take over the country. As you know we are always looking for the best equipment no matter what the type of operation we are on. Look at Julia Child's she was in the OSS and everyone thought she was just a cook. She was Deep Undercover for all these years.
