I am old but the hold just looks like a problem that will happen when you hit mag release?
Just an enthusiast here, but that's how I've "learnt" to handle the M4. There was never a release prob. If anything, from reloading to shooting it was much faster since my left thumb naturally lands on the bolt release. All gross-motor movement, and the left hand does not have to move forward to reestablish firing position.
Having said that, when I used the same position in a 3-gun match with an AK, a retired SF officer (Ian M., I believe I invited him here) corrected me and told me to hold under the barrel. Something to do with distance vs. close engagement. Well, he just took Dave Harrington carbine class, so needless to say I let him 'reset' all my positions/techniques
