I hope all of you are having the best day you can.
My dad has been in the earth for some time, but my days are permeated with the many instances of learning and inspiration he passed along by bringing me along on the many tromps through creek beds and rivers, stalks through wooded hills and draws, and fishing trips in the gentle rain for stringers full of crappie.
He would take me to the homes of elderly family friends and acquaintances to check on their mental and physical health. Many times I would climb with my brothers into the back of his pick-up and drive for hours to some back-woods farm where he would work and weld on a friends broken equipment.
I learned what not to do as he kicked my older brothers asses after they performed a major trespass.
I learned how to work steel, wood, earth, and animals under his critical eye, and work worn hands.
I learned how to continue the mission as I experienced his agony when he buried my brothers and sisters.
I know how to live gracefully from his example of dealing with his own death that took him much too soon.
Know your fathers and do what you can to be a good one.
