We used to use thermometers that contained mercury, no one was losing their minds over that. I broke a few in my day, never had to evac the house.
Those bulbs are all over my house, never caused any radio interference or any other problems. People need to calm down.:rolleyes:
I use a few of the bulbs; they haven't made any problems. I do suspect that any energy savings will be offset by the greater cost of the bulb.
Of course, those who really wish to worry might consider any amalgam tooth fillings they might have...which contain mercury...and must be disposed of as toxic waste when removed by a dentist...

The issue isn't mercury.
It's the incremental encroachment of congress into the sovereignty of the Citizens.
If they can tell me what light bulb to have, next they will tell me when I can turn it on and off, how many I can have, for what purposes I can use it, etc.
The bottom line: elected representatives and appointed officials are excercising authority loaned to them by the Citizens.
The authority belongs to the Citizens.
They are not my boss, I am their boss.
Unfortunately, the iron law of oligarchy is starting to take hold in these United States.
Not quite yet ready to put on my tin-foil hat, but the pending 2nd Amendment ruling would seem to bear some great importance in the long term.

Evening gentlemen...
In addition to lowering the electric bill, it also reduces the AMP load. Helpfull in older homes.
On the RF-Interferance Side... it can be an issue if you are trying to pull in very weak/distant transmissions.
