Colonel:

Is the white one a Westie?

I had a 13 year old Westie named Fergus. I had to put him to sleep 10 days ago after fighting cancer for seven months. Broke my heart but it was the right thing to do.

I'll post some pics of the Big Guy tomorrow.

My last registered Akita was named Baca Moto. Baca suited him most of the time (means idiot in Japanse roughly translated). Moto was his the line he came from. I love the breed, too bad they don't fair well in our summers here.

Those Westies are GREAT dogs. I also have one. Murphy is our third Westie. He resides in my house with a 125lb GSD, a 75 lb. Sheperd/Lab mix and a 60 lb kick ass pitbul. Guess which one is the boss and rules the house. You got it, lil Murph, all 20 lbs. of him. They are big dogs stuck in a little dogs body. The wife and I have decided that a Westie will always be in our home no matter what. The last one I had also had to be put down due to cancer. Probably the hardest thing I ever had to do.

HELENA, Mont. (AP) — A Montana resident says an energy company has identified the cause of a brief power outage as "deer with wings."

Lee Bridges says she was outside with her dogs around the time the power went out when a NorthWestern Energy truck pulled up, giving her a chance to ask the driver what caused the problem.

She says he pointed up and said, "Apparently, we've got deer with wings."

Bridges looked up and saw a dead fawn on a power line.

It's unlikely the animal had an accident while trying to make like distant-cousin Rudolph. Bridges suspects that an eagle dropped its prey and couldn't retrieve it.

The lineman who removed the carcass from the power line said he'd never seen anything like it.

That is usually a really tough thing to find. I was never comfortable with the "ready to go" dogs that I have seen before. The worst one that I saw was a Rottie from a german breeder puchased for about $30,000.00+ with a Schutz III title. The first time the new owner went to breed him, he gutted and killed the bitch during the breeding. That was a few weeks after he went crazy during a Schutz match and would not release from the agitator. It took three agitators about 15 minutes to wear the dog out before the new owner could control him.

Have your neighbor give Bob Gailey a call. IIRC Bob was the agitator that the above mentioned dog would not release from. I haven't seen Bob in years but he would be the one in Central Florida to know if anything there was available and I hope that he is still reputable.

Thanks for the lead.

FYI - We had several rotties on the ranch growing, up, all great dogs. One in particular was grandma's, his only job was to lie at the front door, causing one to have to step over before knocking. He would also fetch kids when dircted.

WET DOG...you might give Ivan a call at Ot Vitosha Malinois. He's in FL and has the best Mals going in my opinion. I have a 4 month old female pup of his now. He's got a couple dogs that are trained and ready to protect available now it looks like http://www.premierprotectiondogs.com/availability.html

I love this thread about man's best friend. Looks like a lot of really good dogs here. :)

This is our Phoebe, the Adventure Beagle. She's a rescue and game for just about anything.

Miniature longhair Dachshunds with our cat, a Bengal. The dogs are the sweetest, best animals I've ever owned. Excellent alarm dogs, too.

If I ever get a Cat, thats what I want. Are they hard to find and how much. If you don't mind me asking.

Dixie (the big red) and Carly (the blonde) the day we brought Carley home. This was the first meeting. Carly was kinda laying down the law. Best buds ever since.

It can be challenging to find a good breeder, especially if you're looking for a combination of looks, temperament and health. I found one by going to a local cat show, and followed-up by talking to three references she provided. The breeder charged US$550 about 4 yrs ago. Here's a link her site:

http://www.bengalz.com/home.html

She's in New Zealand, but the purebred Bengal community is pretty small, so she may know good breeders in the US.

I've owned many cats before, but Bengals are unusual as cats go. I tried to keep him inside at first, but he ended up climbing the drapes up to the ceiling, crapping all over my bed, and other fun stuff like that. So I let him be outside all night, and he loves it. He enjoys a good rough-and-tumble, hunts mice, rats and birds, and brings them back as treasures. He follows my wife around the garden when she's outside, or he comes in and sleeps most of the day. He's also big -- over 15 lbs.

Of course it's a mud puddle. How else is he supposed to get a bath? ;)

Just one (unusual) cat, who likes dogs, often behaves like one himself, and seems to end up in many of my dog's pics.

Priceless. A dog-eating cat. That is too cool. That should make its way onto a motivational poster.

Edited for lack of SA.

For me it is a CKC Boxer named Zeus. Goofy as hell but he loves rucking at all hours of the day or night. Oh, and damn near ripped my arm off for coming home early unannounced.

I searched and found no thread of the sort, so I thought I would start this one.

Actually there is one.

Edited to add: Here's the link. Nice dog, BTW.

We have a Pit/American bull mix and a Dutch Shepherd. Both are almost a year old and have gone through basic obedience. The Dutch will snatch a frisbee out of thin air, retrieve tennis balls until sunrise and work/play with you until you tap out. The bull mix will sit by your side and watch the kids non-stop and stand at attention anytime someone pulls into the driveway. He has such a calm, yet confident disposition.

We begin protection/home defense training this weekend with both of them. A friend of mine is a K9 trainer and is giving us the family discount to help us learn how to train our dogs and take them to the next level. I've always been interested in that sort of thing, so it should be fun to see how they progress (and how my wife and I learn through the process). Any advice/tips please PM me.
