I've got some really thick post blister calusses complete with peeling skin and snake-like appearance. My wife wants to scrape them with her sharpening stone looking thing, I want to leave them alone. What's the rule? Do I take off some of the extra junk or let my body sort it out on its own?

Depends on if you want the calluses to protect your feet from blistering further, if you plan on doing more of what caused them to blister in the first place, or how much time you are going to have between now and your next blister inducing adventure... Calluses are your feet's way of telling you, "well since you wont prepare me, I will protect me..."

If there will be considerable time, let your wife get rid of them then prepare yourself better for next time. However if you plan on doing this same activity in the near future just put some lotion on them and let her smooth down the rough skin with a pumice stone.

Dude, be careful. That almost qualifies as a Pedicure:D

There is also the issue of when the callouses become so large that they no longer protect the feet and instead become the pressure point on the foot that brings the next blister (under the callous). This happens to me regularly because of the way I walk. I say check out the book Fixing your feet for more options.
