View Full Version : Verify 6.8 SPC Testing Rumor

This is my third attempt to get this question answered, and this time I'm going to the top. I asked over at Lightfighter Tactical Forums and M4Carbine.net because I think they have a goodly percentage of real-deal military guys. This site, however (unless I'm reading it wrong), is tops for having "real-deal" military guys.

Before I get into it, let me first disclaim that I'm a very vocal 6.5 Grendel fan, and run a Website devoted to it (if for some reason that makes any difference to anybody).

Gene Econ has made it clear to me in no uncertain terms that you all are a bunch of hard asses and don't lightly suffer fools. (Does that sound like Gene or not? ;) ) What I'm saying is, I'm not here to pimp the 6.5 Grendel and argue with you as to why you should adopt it. I have a simple question that perhaps some of you are in a unique position to answer, and then I will go on lurking.

Here's the deal: I'm following a thread on the 68Forums called "The race to military approval of the 6.8" (http://www.68forums.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=1896&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&start=60) when on page 5 a guy posts the following:

"There are things going on that we can't talk about. Out of the people we know Art has the best chance of getting the correct equipt. and loads to the people that need to test them as he is in the loop and has all of the information.

"After the test this last week Art knows which combination can handle his combat loads and we need to get that to Holland and the testers, Holland knows about the improved performance but I'm not sure he can get enough rifles together for the test or is even trying because Barrett usually supplies the stuff and he may just take that and then get stuck with the lower performance weapons for his guys.

"Doc already has his own personal Kotonics rifle if he would use it in the test. Now Art can send combat ammo to Doc for more gelatin test after he finalizes this next bullet.

"This is the 2nd time around and more than just our military is looking at the round."

A few posts later, the poster adds: "The military is not interested in testing the 6.5 in any way."

I'll be straight up with y'all and admit that I'm a little jealous that the 6.5 Grendel hasn't been invited to the party, and I'd like to know what's going on.

If any military guys here feel that amateurs and civilians like myself have no business knowing about testing of the 6.8 SPC, I can certainly respect that, but then I'd like to know why the poster quoted above, who is just as much an amateur and a civilian as I am, is in on this.

I recommend that you locate the Search button and use it in the future before opening new threads.

We are not looking for another food-fight over a non-issue.

As has been belabored ad nauseum here, like it or not, the 5.56 is here to stay for the forseeable future, despite the best efforts of GKR and his fans to change that.

Asking this question here reflects a lack of SA that needs to be remedied, or is trolling, plain and simple. If you want to check out rumors for your personal edification, please do it elsewhere.

So your question is made to satisfy your curiosity?? I can only speak of Art, Art is good people and makes good ammo (best and most commercially available).

I've got my personal and professional opinions about the 6.8......additionally it's been hit upon here.

Those that know have signed a non-compete and non-disclosure agreement that forbids speaking of military testing. Some data is out and some feedback has been generated. You've most likely come across this in 68Forums threads. Best of luck in your search.

We don't suffer fools such as the "dentist weapons expert" and his koolaid drinking crowd.

Re-read what The Reaper posted and use the search button.

John:

Gene does not think anyone here is a 'hard ass'. Gene knows many of the guys here and they are pretty tough SOBs. There is a significant difference between being a 'hard ass' and a 'tough SOB'. Hard asses lack the ability to think. Tough SOB's think, reason, plan, the achieve their goals no matter what gets in their way. Tough SOB's are extremely intelligent and physically tough. They reason two steps ahead of anyone else and do so under extreme pressure. You have now experienced 'Tough SOB's'.

Gene advised you against bringing up this subject on this forum and stated his reasons. Gene posted something that could have brought out views on the 5.56, 6.5 G, 6 AR, and 6.8 in a manner that was acceptable to this particular outfit. This outfit did their thing and the subject died. That is an indicator which Gene is savvy enough to understand as Gene knows many of the QP's here and has an incredible amount of respect for them. Gene does not push an issue his comerades do not want to address.

Gene advised you to send Gene any message relating to the Grendel so Gene could advise you as to your message. You ignored Gene's advice. This isn't the Grendel forum which I admire and enjoy significantly. This is a practical forum where facts and reality outweigh dreams and wishes.

Gene also hopes a man he served with who is the TS on this forum allows you to remain on this forum as you are an honest man who has shown Gene that you have the ideal combination of tolerance and discipline to control a mob on a web site much like TS and the moderators here have to do daily.

Gene also admires Bill Alexander immensely. Alexander is also a 'Tough SOB' and I respect him as much as anyone here. Bill would be welcomed here. So are you for that matter. Next time maybe you need to take Gene's advice before a freind of mine (you) embarrasses himself in front of my friends (TS and TR).

TS and TR -- keep John on the forum please. He is an honest and good man. John -- read three times -- post once!

Thank you.

Gene

It's OK Gene, we understand the difficulties inherent in cross-cultural communications. :p Course you may be paying for lunch as amends. OT - Are you still headed this way?

Grendalizer - Search button. You registered, it works, and we've beat this dead horse into hamburger. There are sound reasons for the military's fixation on the current cartridge mix. Until the Army says otherwise, 6.5 and 6.8 are esoteric. You have a fine forum of your own to discuss the relative merits of esoteric ammunition. Speculation about rumors in a public forum is irresponsible.

It is a young thing, cross cultural (generational really), Gene, you know, hard to understand that the elderly really are smart and not some dinosaur that does not know what is patently obvious. :munchin
