"On the Ground, the secret war in Vietnam" by John Stryker Meyer and John E. Peters

This is another great book on a subject I never tire of. Its a companion piece so to speak to Meyers other book "Across the fence". Although its sometimes hard to figure out who is "speaking", Peters or Meyer, it in no way takes away from the subject matter. This book has one of the better descriptions of the deadly sapper attack on the FOB 4 compound (August 23 1968) weaving together several different narratives into one comprehensive account of that terrible night. Also included are some photos Ive never seen before.
Unlike other books from this publisher this one is presented in hardback form. I have several books from the same outfit and as much as I liked them the paperback editions never hold up well.
Check out the publishers site as they have alot of good books to offer on the subject including "We few" by Nick Brockhausen,. Two other selectiions are novels but excellent none the less, "the Dying Place" by David Mauer and "Break Contact, continue mission" by Raymond D Harris.

On the same subject another book out there is "SOG : Team History and insignia of a Clandestine Army" by Jason Hardy. While kind of pricey this book is a must have for anyone with a real passion for the subject. Its loaded with photos and insignia of RTs Montana (CCC), Asp (CCN),Hawaii (CCN), Indigo (CCN),Idaho (CCN),Colorado (CCC) and Rattler (CCN). I cant say enough about this one. I thought I knew what a recon team was supposed to look like but I learned alot from the many pics. Supposedly another volume is in the works to cover more teams in the future.
