On our local Volunteer FD we have a good kid who is 19. He is trying to figure out what he wants to do with his life. He has been working hard to get his FF certifications and he has just completed the Medical responders course with a score of 98. He discovered the 18D MOS among a few others. He went to the local recruiters and he was less than happy with the responses that he got from them. What he passed on to me was:

1: That the recruiters told him that Fire Fighter was not an MOS anymore, that everyone recieved firefighter training. (I dont know if it is true or not)
2: That they did not know anything about the X-Ray contracts but they doubted he could handle SF
3: The only thing that he really qualified for was mortuary services because he has work for a funeral home for 2 years.

Needless to say this upset me very much because I am the one that told him to consider the Army.

Now I am trying to find a good contact for this young man. Could someone point me in the right direction. We are local to the Sanford, Vass area.

Thank you

We don't know him, his scores, or anything else specific to his situation.

He is more than welcome to read and learn.

Otherwise, tell the recruiter "no thanks" and walk out.

In this day and age, when some one gives you a weird recruiter story it just seems odd, especially in this area. I would like to know the recruiters name. In the mean time, I'm asking around for someone who knows a good recruiter to help. I can not say anything about the guy as this is a story told from one to another, so I hesitate to go overboard.

I have given him the contact info provided and instructed him to spend some time reading on this board.

Thank you all.

I hate to hear of negative recruiting experiences, especially when the competition for recruits or any good potential soldier of employee is tough. Did he take the ASVAB? Or anything other than a simple visit to the recruiting office? Not knowing about an MOS or enlsitment contact is one thing, but a phone call is easy and then there is the internet. ( GOARMY.com lists 21M as the firefighter MOS now btw...)

Check out 20th Group in the NC ARNG. They have a good program for the SFQC.
