For those of you with a need or desire to learn Arabic that have a Google home page there is a great gadget available.

http://www.google.com/ig/directory?q=arabic&hl=en&root=%2Fig&dpos=top&url=www.hitsalive.com/google_gadgets/arabic_wotd.xml

Basically it shows you a word in Arabic script with the English translation below. You can also hear the word spoken by a native speaker by hitting the play button embedded in the application.

The gadget was designed by Declan Software that puts out a small program called Arabic Flashcards that have a 1600 word vocabulary.

Lots of functionality built into this. You can download a trial version to play with here:

If you just started learning Arabic script they have a similar program that can help as well available on the same page.

I'm in my 4th and last semester of learning Arabic and just learning from a book is hard. Using an interactive computer program is much mcuh better in my opinion.

Mods...I wasn't sure were to put this. This seemed the best place apologies if it is not.

That looks very similar to a program that the Language school here in the course is using. It's Rapid Rote and if you're in the course you can pick it up for free. I know many people who are using it right now to try and build up their vocab. It also comes in all the offered languages. Every little bit counts.

Thanks Ghost!

After searching on Google I learned that Rapid Rote is the military name for the software made by Before You Know It.

http://www.byki.com/

The intro level software is free with unlimited uses and they have many languages available. They have a detailed FAQ page that should answer any questions one might have.

After playing around with it for a few minutes I can say this would have had a substantial positive impact on my vocab. knowledge.
