Three Pigs story ruled ‘offensive to Muslims’
Thursday, January 24, 2008
The TIMES LONDON

Alrighty then!!! At what point will we and the world realize the assault on Judeo-Christian civilianization is so great and broad based; that it is intertwined as part of our mistaken cultural political correctness. And as trivial as this tale is, it has for generations, been a tool to teach our children the concept of choice and fundamental decision making skills.

We need to step up!!!

Why is it Offensive? We are not making them eat them.

If that wasn't so utterly sad, it could be posted in The Comedy Zone. Think I'll go huff and puff and fry up some bacon.

The book was also rejected because it may be offensive to builders.....another case of political correctness gone wild!!!

They'd be really offended if they knew one of the pigs was named Mohammed.

They might even riot in the streets and burn things.

I guess the hatred spewing anti-West Muslim publications published in London are not offensive.

What a sham! The UK with all it's PC and human rights BS are so intent on appeasing the Muslim minority that they are sacrificing the majority and the principles on Which England was founded.

A good, no, a very good book that discusses this exact topic is Londonistan by Melanie Phillips.

She is somewhat conservative so sometimes her opinion needs to be taken with a pinch of salt, but the facts in the book speak for themselves.

A good buddy of mine is a Phoenix cop.

A few months ago his squad had to attend muslim "sensitivity" training.

In the middle of this muslim sensitivity training he asked, "When do we get Christian, Jewish, Wiccan sensitivity training?"

I'm sick of the stories of how everyone is placating the muslim population.

A glaring example :
Charles: A modern prince
While Prince Charles has been criticised for traditional views on issues like hunting, he can be remarkably modern.
He takes a keen interest in architecture, young people, the environment and health, believing people should have access to both complementary and orthodox medicine.

The 56-year-old supported organic farming as far back as 1984, long before it became a mass consumer issue and his vociferous belief in conservation has often been ahead of the times.

The prince's view that, when King, he might change his title of "Defender of the Faith" to "Defender of Faith", to reflect multi-cultural modern Britain, cheered many.

I had one of those "organic" turkeys for Thanksgiving.... I'll be sticking with the "traditional" turkey from now on!:lifter

Stay safe.

Some thoughts from reading the article.

From the article:
"But judges at this year's Bett Award said that they had "concerns about the Asian community and the use of pigs raises cultural issues".

OK, I'm assuming that these people are thinking that they are trying to be nice, look out for others, protect the trodden, etc. Generally I'd call those Liberal stances. However, isn't also a liberal stance (actually, I think its a good stance for anyone) that its good to raise cultural issues? Isn't that how stereotypes get broken (or reenforced), dialogue starts, and understanding of others gets fostered?

"The feedback from the judges explaining why they had rejected the CD-Rom highlighted that they "could not recommend this product to the Muslim community". They also warned that the story might "alienate parts of the workforce (building trade)". The judges criticised the stereotyping in the story of the unfortunate pigs: "Is it true that all builders are cowboys, builders get their work blown down, and builders are like pigs?"

I'm curious if this group doesn't recommend books about cows, too, in order to not offend Hindi's? How evenly administered are their decisions?

Then there is the part about offending consturction workers. I truely don't know how to attack that argument as its so far fetched that they'd be offended. Most construction workers that I know are pretty thick-skinned (a few are somewhat pig-like in smell and manners ;), have grown up on this story, and realize that this is just a children's story. Where they claim that the builder's work gets blown down (thus inferring something demeaning? ), doesn't weather do that to houses? Is every structure perfect? Don't shortcuts often lead to shortcomings? Of course all buildrs aren't cowboys, and all children who jump on beds aren't monkies. Or has that book been judged offensive as well?

I'm all for respecting other cultures, person-first speech, etc. However, this really seems to be over the top. This group's actions limit the ability of teachers to address and overcome the very iissues that this group raises. Why not let a teacher ask students if all builders are pigs, the consequences of short-cuts, or reasons why people don't eat certain foods? Isn't school a place for academic and social learning?

I have to agree, if for the fact that this is real, it'd be great fodder for the Comedy Zone.

Ghads that got long...

Cheers,
rumbly

I have a friend who recently reitred from the Royal Air Force (he was an MP). He moved to America and immediately began working on getting his citizenship here.
He said the freedom's we have here and the respect that we show one another was a breath of fresh air to him. He says he loves it a looks foward to being a citizen and not a subject.
Makes you wonder doesn't it.

No,

She speaks to a male (woodcutter) directly and without family-member supervision. I believe she would be stoned....

The U.S is probably the least raciest country I ever spent time in. I always have to chuckle when I think of how minorities are treated in some of the countries in South/Central America. Down there they don't even have a say in the matter.

Tubbs sir,

Have a few friends here myself that became U.S. Citizen's.

Did try and enlighten them that, 'Freedom is not Free'...but they had already adopted that mantra, and knew firsthand the true meaning of the phrase.

We are truly blessed to be living in the U.S.A. IMHO.:lifter We have Brave Soldiers that will stand and fight for Us...and that is truly a blessing.
