I apologize in advance if this question has been asked already, I used the search engine but what I read didn't answer my question.
Last Saturday I was getting information from a SF recuirter. One of the questions I asked was about the language selection. He informed me that if I take the DLTP prior to going to Selection/Q course and score a 1/1/1 on a certain language that I will be selected for that specific language. I however have heard otherwise from other sources, that infact you are selected for a language due to your score on the DLAP. Thank you in advance.

Nismo, getting information from you is like pulling teeth.
What is your "certain language" that you are going to shoot for getting a rating in?
Since you are/were not a citizen than am I to assume it's your native language? Unless of course you're a Scot, Englishman or Welsh guy.

I apologize, I should have stated that.
I speak/read/write fluent Spanish (from Mexico) and should be getting my citizen ceremony ending April beginning May.

You are correct in that language selection is based on your DLAB score for those that do not have a DLPT rating in another language. For those that do have a rating its a whole other ball of wax.
There have been guys who test out of a language (DLPT) and then get selected for another language altogether while some test out and only have to attend blocks 1 & 2 of language instruction (these guys are AI's) in the language they tested out of.
The fact of the matter is it comes down to the needs of the Regiment first. And until you get to SFAS you will not know what language you will get, unless of course you are a NG Candidate. :D

Take the DPLT in Spanish and you might get lucky and be able to draw pay for it. If they assign you Spanish then just jump through the hoops that Crip mentioned. At worst you'll be day dreaming through a few weeks of Spanish classes. If they offer you another language on top of Spanish by all means take it and apply yourself. Like Crip said it's needs of the Regiment and if you are fluent in Spanish and have a basic knowledge of another language it can only be an asset to you and your team.

Even though CMF 18, 180A, and SF Branch fall under US Special Operations Command (USASOC) <-- See page 12 :D it provides good information WRT pay / proficiency / DLPTs / DLABs / and DLIFLC.
FWIW, The CAT I - IV language pay tables no longer exist, now it is A-C and depends upon the needs of the Army (e.g. Indonesian is a Cat II language, but falls within pay group A :lifter)
Also provide information on the OPIs (not a standard part of DLPT IV but now a required part of DLPT 5)
